Hi guys

I'm new to Sing and looking at buying a second hand bike. Can someone please explain to me the transfer of plates?

I've asked a guy how much he's selling his bike. He said 19k without plates and 25k with plates... what does that mean? Does it mean for 19k, he would deregister the bike and I would have to re-register it and there would be some registration fee that would amount to 6k?

Thanks in advance

The seller probably has a "vanity" plate he would like to retain. It's not an issue for the buyer, you can either ask the seller to get a new plate before the transfer - he can retain the old one, or you can be allocated a new plate during the transfer. The second option requires you to explain the situation to your insurance company and then let them know your new plate once you obtain it.

Fees for new plates are minimal either way, and you will be allocated a new FBJnnnnl plate.

Thanks!

For insurance, is directasia the best place to get insurance?

They're generally the most price competitive. Do consider your coverage needs.

Would you be travelling to Malaysia frequently? Check the excess with different companies for theft in Malaysia. AIG I believe, does not have an excess other than the normal 5-600. Some companies have an excess of 50% of your vehicle omv up to a cap of $2 500 if theft of said vehicle occurs in m'sia.
