Complaint against bike shops

Hi guys, any idea to whom we can officially lodge a complaint against some dodgy bike shops that might have some sneaky financial tricks up their sleeves to earn extra money?

 

Getting more pissed at one shop now..

Okay.. Was just having a look at their site.

Btw guys, this is my prob. I bought my bike used from a shop. The road tax and insurance begins on 31 Aug '13.

 

The tricky part is the insurance ends on 30 Aug '14. Now as bike shops normally only give 6 months road tax, I have to renew the next 6 months myself, the prob with this is LTA sent me the road tax renewal disc that goes up to 31 Aug '14. So there is a one day lapse where the bike isn't insured ie 31st Aug '14. So then I called up the bike shop, he says I need to do extension for one day from 30th -31st Aug '14 and it will cost me $50. Yes, $50 for one days worth of insurance!!!

 

Anybody have similar experiences? I can't imagine that I have to pay $50 just for one days worth of insurance extension!

dude try contact ur insurance direct..if u need to renew. .not necessarily to renew at bike shop.can contact me at 98444355

Hey man thanks for the info. But I the shop always use the clause 'under hire purchase must follow bike shop insurance'. Not sure how true is this. I looked at the sales agreement also didn't really state must use their insurance.

I don't think so cos I didn't have this prob with my last bike. I don't mind the $50. But if for every biker to give $50 like that. U wanna join?

you probably dont have to. just contact your insurance coy with your own details, and extend it yourself.

 

uve already paid ur dues to the bikeshop for ur initial insurance. the rest is up to u

 

for hirepurchase, as long as u pay ur instalments, they wont bother what u use for ur insurance from then on.

in case you didnt know, u CAN request for a quote for dates arent the usual '6 months' or '1year'. for odd dates, its perfectly fine as people often align it with their road tax for convenience.

Yes I understand that I can request a certain period of insurance to align it to the exact date on the road tax. But in this case, because the insurance isn't due until another 6 months, word is that I can't extend it now. So it's just about paying for that extra coverage of that 1 days lapse between insurance expiry first, and then road tax on the following day..

Yes can extend to coincide with road tax, normally just go and pay the insurance pro rate.

Sorry I left out one detail. In this case, since the insurance isn't due until 6 months down the road, no extension is allowed. But since I need that 1 day extra insurance, the shop claims that the insurance company has a minimum fee of $50 of every transaction even though the cost itself might be far less than that..

Hi you should not bother thinking so much about it. One day before your insurance expire go to any insurance company that you like to renew your insurance and road tax . Request for it to end on the same day. $50 for extend is too much. Just 4 ur info you can also stop ur current insurance policy at any time. Just go to the current company tell them you want to stop ur current insurance policy. But don't ride without any insurance coverage. It is an offence.

Hi thanks for the extra info about terminating the insurance earlier. I must admit I didn't think about it. But just got confirmation from bike shop it's $25 and not $50 as said before. Said he misquoted. Will need to go down with my old road tax and insurance cover note to sort it out.

Having said that, I called ANDA and the lady said for any insurance extension under Hire Purchase, she just asked me to go back to bike shop for it. Said she can't do from her end..
