Hi,

Does any one know where to buy Mink oil/conditioner to take care of leathers (Jackets, Suits, Gloves etc.)

There was a post in the forum that mentioned at home-fix but I checked and at least in my local one they didn't had.

Location and price would be appreciated :thumb:

Thanks

And to help the next guy ...

It was $9.95 for 45g.

It looks very natural and no chemical smells. Just what I wanted.

I was expecting an actual oil but its a paste, no worries.

You can get it at mustafa as well.

$8 if memory serves me well.

I have dubbin too which is synthetic and gives better waterproofing.

There's synthetic mink oil and natural mink oil. Red Wing has both. You can also get Columbus Mink oil from the Isetan, Takashimaya - Japanese shops.

For waterproofing, there are many different approaches. Dubbin , like Hydher mentioned, waterproofs very well, but it also collects dirt and it leaves behind a sticky finish. Good for these coming rainy weeks - like wet gloomy UK. But it's black black and black. If you have white thread or tan welts, then black dubbin will ruin the work of the shoemaker.

Beeswax is also great for conditioning and waterproofing leather. After applying, use a hair drier from abt 10inches away, to heat up the wax and melt it into the leather. It'll work into the edges and seams. When it cools, it will fill in the stitching.

Minkoil, if used too much affects the stitching. Be careful.

If we oil and maintain our boots well, in the tropics, pure leather will work better than GoreTex-lined boots.

Hope that helps.

Why rush? It's the journey, not the destination ... :shades:
