Substitute gas tank for CB400 ver S

Good day gentlemen!

I need a little help here, ive been searching the net for days but can't find an answer.

Is it possible to replace the cb400 version s gas tank with a tank from a different model, example say CB400 hawk, and are there any laws against this?

Or is it more of a "as long as it fits" kinda thing?

Officially, it's illegal. Unofficially, as long as you can make it fit and it does not look totally out of place, no one will bother you.

 

However do understand there are many aspects of consideration if you want to retro fit a tank from another bike. Things like mounting points, clearance beneath the tank, routing of hoses, as well as the angle of the tank on the bike are critical topics.
