I would like to know does changing stock pump to big bike stock pump really improve braking ?? For example changing brake pump to used fz1 / r1 stock.. reason being cos I don wanna spend half a k on brembo brake pump...

For those who tried doing similar thing, can 1 finger braking be achieved without using too much strength ?

Thanks

yours is what bike? pump is only part of the equation. also is the disc diameter and number of pots. why do not change the caliper too?

My ride is cbr250r. . I nv consider caliper is becos I think that only pump helps to achieve 1 finger effortlessly. .. cos I tried my fren 1199 brake pump which is super soft which really allow 1 finger braking..

from what i know the brake pump pumps a certain amount of brake fluid depending on its size to move the piston in the calipers

example 1: (normal brake pump)

brake pump pumps a maximum 10ml of brake fluid through the brake hose depending on the pressure applied on your brake handle

that 10ml of brake fluid moves the piston in the calipers by 3mm

so stopping force is equivalent to 3mm of compression strength

example 2: (larger brake pump)

brake pump pumps a maximum 20ml of brake fluid through the brake hose depending on the pressure applied on your brake handle

that 20ml of brake fluid moves the piston in the calipers by 6mm

so stopping force is equivalent to 6mm of compression strength

so you can see a larger brake pump moves the piston more than the smaller one, so somehow it feels like there is more braking strength when you only brake a little bit.

**** this is based on my own understanding. if anyone out there knows how the mechanism works and i am wrong please correct me =)

theirs got two disc. maybe you can change the braking feel but perhaps why they can do a one finger is that they have a huge diameter disc and also two calipers acting at the same time. in short, i think their brakes makan, that is why 1 finger enough to have the stopping power. just my view.

me newbie, my view is that the problem is that the larger pump is still moving the same amount on the stock caliper. it cannot move the more than the few mm. if anything else, i think it would make it have less "range of travel" since a squeeze now need to move more fluid and the 2 pot caliper on the cbr got not much place to move. this is my view lah, please kindly correct if wrong.

I see... thanks for the feedback. . Justforme logic sounds right when apply big bike pump to small bike since big bike got 2 hose while small bike only got one...

How it works is that more volume is pushed. eg piston of the brake pump for 16-20mm.

A cheaper method is to use stainless steel lines which is smaller in diameter. It cost about $80-130 a line.

Im using ebay china ss brake lines with success. Cost me about $12usd.

Use at your own risk.

Also, use dot 4 fluid and sintered brake pads.

Good luck.

Putting aside the quality of the pump which affect the 'feel' of the brake action, the relationship between the master cylinder and caliper is very straightforward.

What happens when you increase/change the master to a bigger one? What happens if you do the opposite and change to a smaller one?

Lets say you do not change the caliper but increase the diameter of the master cyl, the lever will feel harder to press at the same time have shorter travel. This is due to the fact that a bigger diameter master needs to travel less to achieve the same amount of volume displaced.

Inversely, if you change to a master with a smaller diameter, the lever will feel softer but you will have to push it further to displace the same amount of brake fluid.

Therefore contrary to common belief, if you "upgrade" to a brake master cylinder of a small bike to a big bike master, it will actually decrease the mechanical advantage and bring you further from your goals.

If you want soft but more powerful brake, downsize. If you want firm but immediate response, upsize.

A stainless steel braided line improves the braking feel of a system because it does not expand easily compared to stock rubber hose. As more energy is directed to the caliper pistons instead of expanding the hose outwards, the brake system will feel more responsive and powerful.

Brake pump is only part of the equation on the overall system. I would suggest that TS can get better brake pads and ss brake line first. For front use reputable brand ss brake line. For rear, ebay china make ss brake and rotor can be consider. i would not put my life at risk for those unknown company that does not invest in R&D in products.

On brake mods, i will follow below step.

1. Harden front fork (change spring/change higher viscosity fork oil ect)

2. Brake pad

3. Steel brake hose

4. Bigger piston master pump

5. Brake disc diameter

6. Caliper

hope help to TS.

It's a common misconception that a bigger piston brake pump will improve braking. But in reality it will reduce the mechanical advantage of your braking system.

Smaller piston brake pump will make your brakes more powerful, but the downside is the lever will be softer and have a longer travel.
