First post - question about insurance

Hello, first post! I just moved to Singapore for six months, arrived here on Saturday. Would like to buy a bike for the six months I'm here, the Honda Phantom seems quite good. I have a full UK bike licence so I think I can ride anything here, but I don't want to spend more than $1500-$3000. Ideally I'd want to get some/most of that back when I leave by reselling the bike.

 

So - my first question (probably of many!) is this: how much is insurance likely to cost? I'm 28, male with 2 years of riding experience and 4 years of driving, with a full UK licence and planning on getting a 150cc/200cc bike.

 

I don't know who you'd ring to get insurance, so if anyone knows of insurance companies to get quotes that would be much appreciated.

first of all, warm welcome to Singapore.

 

i believe you will have to first go to convert your license to a Singapore one before you can buy a Singapore registered bike. For details, you might like give the Traffic Police a ring.

 

As for the insurance premium, i will recommend that you do some leg work to visit some bike shop and they will be able to give you a better quote (insurance + bike cost) on the total cost of ownership.

Thanks!! I don't think I need to convert my licence as I'm only here for six months. Can you recommend a good bike shop to use? Any idea at all on how much insurance is likely to be, i.e. $500? $1000?
