6 if you wana forfeit the contract bonus and go for early release or 10 if you choose to stick with it all the way and face with the prospect of maybe being offered for P2 or not....

In year 2000, the P1 plan was introduce..I prefer the contract plan though..

The life outside will depend if u have lobang or if you are willing to work for it..

My friend who is already on P2 left the service early this year..He's a big risk taker i would say..Being a car agent, betting soccer, working for a legal finance company which provides legal loan..In the space of 6 months, he earn a year's salary if he choose to stay in the SAF..More than 30k..

How hard it's going to be will depends on how hard are u going to work at it..Trust me, the way SAF operates now isnt something which you can depend on anymore..I got lots of batchboys who already plan to leave once 6 years is up..

And it aint easy to fight for P2 plan nowadays..Imagine every year, you will have 30+ SSG fighting for 3-4 slots for P2...

very true. Before I left, I contacted my ex colleagues and they all say the market very bad. Especially the post SARS period somewhere in early 2004. I have friends who ORD already ended up hanging around hunting for jobs for 2 years still cannot match even to 70% of what he got when he was still an automotive spec. I'm considered lucky to secure a job shortly before I ORD. Somemore a very related job to what I did in the SAF but now its just that its in a purely civilian company. Many ex regulars were also recruited by my present company either in the ops side or workshop side.

Not iron rice bowl anymore as ketten hunde said. Is super fabulously true. What if at the end of PP1 your unit gives you the golden handshake. At 30 years old ex SSG or at the best 2WO, what can you do... as fresh as a new grad. And the gratuity is not going to last you a lifetime. Thats why I decided to leave even when my boss repeatedly told me to extend for another 4 years and immediate promotion.

But my 6 years in the SAF I shouldn't say I regret though I thrilled at the idea of ORD. Becos without SAF, I will not achieve what I have today. Sometimes we gotta think of the source when we drink the water.
