There's a locking problem with my side boxes.. I cant seem to get then lock. Any bros there know where could I get this fixed?

This problem can DIY.

There are 2 U-shaped steel loops that goes into the lock on the pannier lids. You can loosen the screws securing them and then pull the loops towards the locks so that it extends further into the lock. This should allow the panniers to fully engage into the locks. Make sure the levers for opening the panniers clicks on closing the panniers and are resting flat in the lever recess.

BTW, which workshop do you go to? I'm looking for a good mechanic. The one I used to go to has closed shop because the landlord raised his rent.

Thanks for the input. I would try but I'm not much of a DIY guy :)

My bike is at a workshop at Sing Ming Autopoint level 3. The mechanic name of Ah Huat. I have known him for about 12 years. Reliable guy.

Wah Rayyim. DIY on the lock?? I had 2 DV before. Imagine riding at 90 and suddenly your DV thinks it is a Transformer wanting to fly off. That is what happen to my 1st DV in 2006. Both side covers opened. I thought i had latched them properly. i felt the unstability caused by the covers opening but luckily nothing happend and i didnt lose anything as i wasnt very confident to put stuff . then in 2010 i got another DV, same thing happened. When i went to many shops , many mech cannot do much. some suggested put bolts and latch devices and then put locks. yucks.

You won't be doing anything to the lock. All you are doing is adjusting the latch so that your pannier can lock properly.

It is actually part of regular maintenance as over time pushing the latch into the lock will cause the latch to move and prevent it from locking your panniers properly. If you are worried about loose screws, you can always use Locktite. Sort of a glue for screws that prevents screws from coming loose.

My Deauville is 9 1/2 years old. I open my panniers everyday and has never experienced the panniers popping open when riding. You also just need to ensure that your panniers are properly locked before riding off.

Sold off my 1st Dv because of that problem. couldnt bear with the idea of such danger. 2nd deauville wasnt much of a problem. hmmmm mhow about the new DV model 700. does it have such locking problem.?

One day I will start a new thread for Technical Aspects or extremely Useful Info for DV owners.

For example, I knew abt MaoMao helpng out in this lock thing and Honda Rider warning about the latch thingy in the volumes of posts. Hard to find, lah - The posts are somewhere, but where? Heheeee...

We were exhorted to close the pannier gently - so we are to ensure the mechanics do not forget that also, bros. I always have to remind workshop Mechanics not to slam close the cover as they always do !!!! If the lock is damaged totally due to "slamming" the inner half of the pannier will cost u a "bomb".

The correct way is to bring the cover and inner half close together, then must "click" them to lock - the hook of the cover latches on to the U- tube of the inner half.

But of course, if the lock has already sustained damage ( but reparable), the DIY helps ( if U-Tube is still adjustable).

Another thing is - be gentle when u remove panels or fairings from NT650. They are notoriously "thin".

We must help one another as some solutions may not need expensive repairs . :dot:

Bro MR Biker:

As for the NT700 pannier locks _ Yes it can have the same problem. Luckily I learnt from Honda Rider who had to change his inner half of the pannier because of slamming!!!

if only adjust u-shaped loops that is very easy, but normally the problem not from there, is from the inside, whole lock catch things wif 4 screws hole broken, it cannot catch the u-shaped loops at all. one idea is change the rear both side whole fairing, but too expensive, another idea is rebuild the screw holes, that is not too difficult, but u need take off all fairing, the workshop wont do it mayb this job not much profit, but too much things need to do, and take off all fairing got risk, once brake any one piece of fairing, get another trouble. if u need my advice, just come and looking 4 me.

DV NT700's side panniers face the same problem as the DV650. The inner half is only supported by 2 plastic holder which are just as thin as our last fingers. So by exerting heavy strength and slamming the panniers cover will cause the plastic holder to give way which I had encountered. There are no ways to repair it, if it is badly damaged, and the only thing is just to change a new one which cost about $500+. It is very troublesome to dismantle and assemble the new inner pannier, so do play it safe if any of the bros here encounter this similar problem by changing a new one, make sure the 2 thin plastic holder should be re-inforce with extra araldite glue around it to enable it to be stronger. The outer cover panniers are supported by 2 latches with 2 screws on each one. In the event of prolong usage and high speed travelling, it loosen and you might see some hair-line cracks along the area that supporting the screws. The only way is to use good araldite glue to mend it.

To minimize or in order to prevent such faults, the best way is not to over load the side panniers. Ensure that it can be closed without having to press it in order to lock it. Hope that I am able to help those who are in doubts as I had learnt it the hard way.....lol
