Hey Guys....

 

Hoping you could help me out...

I just read this thread in this forum about "tank slap"

And one of the few cause of it is over inflated tyres... :faint:

 

I have a feeling that could be the problem cose i'm not sure thats the correct tyre pressure for it... :cheeky: :cheeky:

 

Could anyone enlighten me... :angel: :angel:

 

I'm using Bridgestone Battlex 17" 80/90 & 90/80...

The place to start is to read the maximum inflation pressure on the sidewall of your tires. Should be in kPa and pounds per square inch (PSI). As a westerner I am used to PSI.

 

In theory, this is the max tire pressure you should use. In reality, if doing a lot of 2 up riding or with a lot of weight you might add 2 to 4 pounds above this maximum.

 

If it is mostly you riding, and you are not an elephant, tire pressure should run somewhat below the max indicated. Don't know exactly how much for your bike... for mine I run about 2 to 4 pounds below max rating.

 

If you are experiencing handle bar wobble, you might try different tire pressures between front and back. For example, if you run 38 in the front, then run 42 in the back... about 4 pounds difference.

 

What this does is make the rear tire track strongly (and provide support for extra weight) while making the front tire just a bit softer in order to damp out any undesirable oscillations.

 

The differential tire pressure trick works very well on large, heavily loaded bikes. I've seen bikes that wobbled all over the place with a full load or pulling a trailer, clear up completely with 4 pounds difference between front and back.
