Alot of work to be done. But not hard.

U have to ake out the ank, empty the contents, remove the fuel petcork.

Then "sealed" the petcock opening, proteck the paint work before pouring the rust remover into the tank. Some people up nuts and small bolts to assist in the scarbing action.

However, after that. The hard part will be coating the internals. After u remove the rust. The internals will be bare and will rust again if not protected.

The original coat is usually galvanised with zinc. galvanising is idone dipping steel into molten zinc.

Or u can use epoxy to coat. Coating with epoxy was discuss somewhere in this forums much earlier on. However, Not all epoxy is suitable and u have to find a suitable one.

The conclusion for the old discussion is as follows:

If tank is no longer available for sale by manufacturer, then u have to do the above mentioned.

If tank is super expensive, then same as above.

If tank is available and is ok in price. Just change a new one to save all the trouble.

i seldom hear that tank rust in a bike can be easily cleaned. normally its done as how black comet described. best solution is change a new tank, or aftermarket aluminium tank. might be expensive but aluminium would not rust, forever...

Yesterday was history, tomorrow is mystery, today is a blessing. I love today.

Thank U for contribution,

I'm a bad DIY person and don't think would like to mess up my house for all the cleaning.

The other problem is to find the right rust remover solvent, more for industrial use.

My bike had stopped production long ago (1994) and it's 9 years old.

I had enlarge the tank, meaning not going to get another new OEM tank which is much smaller.

I also had tried sourcing for aftermarket tank, no for my bike.

So if any of u know where can i get the job done,

pls pm or email me.

Txs!!

Bro,

it can be done,

just that over in SGP,

the demand is low,

over here we will get rid of the bike or change the whole tank,

just like car,

u only find new models of cars on the road...

What I get to know is that they will clean up the rust

and recoat it...

thus the tank could be reuse.

However just can't find the shop that does it in SGP.
