I bought the air filter from KS for $13 only. $44.50 from guan hoe :giddy:

CR8EK $7 from KS with the Suzuki Genuie product(SGP) logo on the packaging

Japan made yuasa battery can get from KS, heard its the cheapest in town and not to worry getting a chiong one.

Any idea how much is the rectifier for Bandit400, can use Super 4 rectifier or not?

If too ex, maybe I going to bid a used one on ebay and wait 2 weeks for it to ship here.

I found a burnt connector on the black and red wire towards the rectifier, check the resistance according to the manual. Here is what I got on the rectifier, think its kaput. Batt measure is 11.5V. Will check the A/C generator tomorrow hope its not fried.

With my little knnowledge of electric, urs rectifier seemed to haf a lot current passing...meaning instead of infinite resistance(0 current passing), u haf current passing..so theorectically the AC wave generated by the stator(whtever u call tht thing tht generate current to be sent to the rectifier),to be changed to DC, is not done..meaning AC to DC conversion (which is suppose to be the job of rectifier) is not completed...conclusion after going one big round is...RECTIFIER fried :p ...

suspect oso la...maybe due to some wear n tear and IDEALLY assumed IFINITE resistance is actually of some finite value big enuf to be assumed infinite...tht wheattone bridge thingie with one way current conducting diodes thingie...

So good luck ya...wana wait for my bike come back use my rectifier on ur bike to test?

Think maybe u should avoid testing ur suspected faulty rectifier on another bike, risk spoiling the battery :) ....again from those stoopid theories my teachers haf tot me back in sch hahaha

think i blur everyone out here with my lousy english muahaha... or probably i am dictating something tht everyone oredi knows :p *smart alleck*

I dun think my rectifier i spoiled. Not very likely cos i tried starting the bike acouple of times still can start n run engine. Lights everything still haf...meaning bike battery still charging rite? Am I right?

And my bike still in MLK so cannot chekc my rectifier resistance reading leh....anyone else can volunteer on their bike? or u wait till i come back then can test?

Yup Yup Yup... I post that!

Anyways, the air filter is not those sponge type. Price a bit on the high side, but service is good enough to compensate the cost.

KNN air filter SU008 is for GSF400P

There is also a factory jet kit for GSF400P too.

Can get the parts from Sporting motorcycles if you want, they will order for you from US.

Nope everything is stock on my bandit.

My old bike use K&N, the bike rev feels lighter compare to stock air filter.

I decided to buy a new rectifier rather than a second hand since the 2nd hand cost isn;t too far from a new.

I bought my rectifier from KS for $125(quote me $130 on the phone), and brought the battery to a shop to charge up for $2. After charge batt reading is 13.1volts.

I measure the resistance from the AC generator which is 70ohms all across for the 3 yellow wires, which tell me its working fine. and I replace the burnt (black/white and red) connector

The new rectifier wire color code(3 black, 1 black/white and 1 black/red) is different from the one I took out ( 3 yellow, 1 black/white and 1 red)

The new rectifier value measure is

B1(-) to B2(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B1(-) to B3(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B1(-) to B/R(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B1(-) to B/W(+) = 3.5Mohms (spec 3.5Kohms)

B2(-) to B1(+) = infinity infinity)

B2(-) to B3(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B2(-) to B/R(+) = inifinity (spec infinity)

B2(-) to B/W(+) = 3.5Mohms (spec 3.5Kohms)

B3(-) to B1(+) = inifinity (spec infinity)

B3(-) to B2(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B3(-) to B/R(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B3(-) to B/W(+) = 3.5Mohms (spec 3.5Kohms)

B/R(-) to B1(+) = 3.5Mohms (spec 3.5Kohms)

B/R(-) to B2(+) = 3.5Mohms (spec 3.5Kohms)

B/R(-) to B3(+) = 3.5Mohms (spec 3.5Kohms)

B/R(-) to B/W(+) = 5Mohms (spec 6Kohms)

B/W(-) to B1(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B/W(-) to B2(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B/W(-) to B3(+) = infinity (spec infinity)

B/W(-) to B/W(+) = infinty (spec infinity)

The bike fire up in one click, the instrument gauges all becomes bright again. When blip the throttle the headlight dim for a second and turn bright again. The rectifier feel warm to the touch.

Further charging test,

With load, high beam on. blip throttle to 5000rpm, batt reading 13.7volts. Close throttle, batt reading rose to 14.7volts and drop back to 12.7 volts.

Neutral light no more flickering as compare to before.

There's alot of hearsay about Bandit 400.

It's a 10 yr old bike, can't expect much.

Anyway, among those Bandit 400 owners that I know, only 1 person got CDI problem.

Posted

hhehehe,

ANY model of Bike, 10 years old, will have CDI problem.

Its not the issue of "Bandit" at all.

In fact, if you name any part of the Bandit, I can think of someone with a problem there. If you buy a bandit, be prepared to replace ANYTHING. So far, I think the bike I am riding... I can only think of 4 components that have not been replaced yet.... rest all changed in the recent years liao.

Now Super 4 version S, since 5 years of age a lot got rectifier problem, that's a design fault there.

abang, then maintainence wise leh...

u noe anyone or shop sellin... for fL plate $2.8k ok not....

found it at yishun... one more thing, is it ok for touring....
