My foreign license is 5 years old. Have just converted to Singapore last week and planning to buy a bike upcoming week. Do I need to hang a probation plate when riding?

I suggest you to check your status of Driver Improvement Points (DIPS) via EDDIES 1st to play safe...

If 12 points means you must put but 24 points means no need...

:) :) :)

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB

To summarise, twelve points (to spend on traffic-related offences, touch-wood!!) are usually given to Probationary Plate drivers/riders. These are people that have just graduated from their driving school.

A year later, that "P" Plate comes off, and that 12 points is increased to 24 (again, to spend on offences until Traffic Police suspends a person's liense)

So, Panclanrider has given you a clue on how to check to see whether you need a P-plate or not. And the Traffic Police has the discretion to give you either one, depending on your overseas experience with motorcycles.

P.S.: Singapore uses a multi-tiered licensing scheme (just like Japan).

What does the back of your photocard license say?

Does it say "Class 2 - Allowed to ride motorcycles exceeding 400cc?"

Yes, you need. When I converted my license, I seeked clarification from the officer. You are under probation for 12 months and you need to display the orange/yellow triagle plate.

Same for me, but i had my license for 2 years when i converted. IIRC, there was another forummer who converted his license, but didn't have to put P plates on as when he converted, his license was 6 years old.
