Could be fuel starvation. My 06 R1 sometime has this problem and I traced it to a dislodged rubber grommet at the fuel tank cover hinge which causes the pressure relief hole to be plugged when the fuel cap is closed. Check that his grommet is not dislodged and replace it properly. You can try if its fuel starvation caused by this by just opening the cap, closing it again and try to restart immediately when you get hard starting problem.

Hope its this simple cheers.

I had this problem for quite sometmes already. I've tried it what you (vfrt) suggest but it doesn't work. What borther me most about this prob is when i pump fuel, and it won't start so i have to wait until it cools down. Tx.

Can anyone help me, I'm having a similar situation to this on my cbr400.

--> after travelling about 20km to 40km, i switch off my engine, then 20minutes later when i try to start, it can't, i need to wait for the engine to cool down then im able to start.

--> i did this method my friend said. 1) switch on the bike, cut the engine, press n hold the crank button for 5 seconds, and wait for 10seconds, 2) then do the process again for 5 times, after its over, 3) switch to start, and crank.

the first time i did this, it was successful, the next few times i tried it didn't work.

--> ever since i changed my coolant, ive been having this problem, im not sure if its that or i need to wash my carb, or should i change to new spark plugs ?

anyone know this...pls help..

maybe...its a result of air leaks..when engine is hot..the tubing and joints sometimes gets loose...thus making the fuel mix very lean and difficult to start..when engine cools down the joints are sealed again leakage lesser and u can start..IMHO

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time:dot:

oh, well...my mech said its the circuit box, thus not enough spark power to switch on the bike. im not sure if thats true or not but i think there's another way??

u know if there's a way to prevent this ? :giddy:

you can check whether you have a good spark..this is what i would do..

remove spark plug from cylinder...plug into spark cap...place spark plug thread against cylinder..start engine..good spark is a steady stream of blue spark jumping across the spark gap..sometimes even jump to the cylinder.

You cant DIY unless you have a 4-1 vacuum gauge. The brand Carbtune is pretty popular. However, I dun think its got to do with your TBs...

I'm not experience enough to tell you whats wrong with your bike. What i can suggest is for you to get hold of a maintenance manual for your bike. Your bike should have basic diagnostics capabilities using your LCD meter but you'll need a manual to know how to use it.

When you say it cant start,

1) Does the bike crank but no light up?

2) Bike totally do not crank with fault light coming on when you press the start switch?

When I switch on the key, the lights everything light up, everything is OK, but when I press the crank, can't start, then when I crank + throttle also can't, the crank sound is normal, the battery is working OK.

Just that I'm only able to start when the bike 'cools' down. :faint:

 it happens to my fren gsx-r400 slingshot starter motor for the crank:cheeky: .kinda hard to isolate the problem lah ,cause assumptions or guesses can lead you to the wrong rectification, can be overheat fuse, electrical wiring problem,u go to a mech lah, much safer at least they will noe sumtink, but let not hope they see it through blindly:cheeky:all the best for your problem, hope u find it!!

Well, I guess I have to say I dun know whats your problem and I certainly dun want to pretend to be a know-it-all.. I've nv encountered sth like that...

It depends on how far you wanna go... Try out mepkoh's method. That will isolate whether its the ignition thats being inhibited or fuel thats being cut off. But yours is not an FI bike, so it shouldn't be the latter.
