Hi folks, new to this forum. Recently just got back into riding after 27 years! Now taking class 2 and hope to ride a Harley or a BMW after I get my license. Thinking of getting a used bike and trying to work out the depreciation. Can you good folks advise me what would be a fair residual or scrap value of say a Harley like a sportster XL1200 when the COE ends? Or a general guideline of how to work these numbers.

Thanks for the help in advance.

was in similar position as u... since COE is quite high past couple of years, I was expecting near to 10 years old bikes value to drop since less ppl can afford COE renewals but seems like many companies offer COE loan renewals or have a scheme where they buy ur bike, renew COE then sell back to u with loans. That means these COE bikes end up costing even more now.

As such, I decided to get a new bike instead.

Thanks for your input. Of course if affordability is not an issue, personally I would go for a brand new bike. Maintenance cost will be much lower too. But the key question how does one determine the value of the bike ( 10 yrs old) and then add on the COE. Will it be 1/2 of the value of a brand new bike?
