Just bought a vtec 3 and now running in at 700+ km. Yesterday night, i went back to home after work and upon reaching the carpark, i suddenly feel something wrong with my idling.

The idling seems to have "asthma" as when it idles around 1 rpm plus. It doesnt sound like the bike is going to die but it sounds like there are some air leak somewhere. I did a test by clutching in and the idling seems to be worse.

today morning, i went down to check the bike again and the idling problem happens again.

Just to ask the gurus here, what other checks i can do to rectify this problem?

Anyone here happens to have similar problem before?

hmmm...puzzled...when u collect your bike..do the bikeshop do a carb cleaning + tunning for u?Check of airfilter/plugs?? btw..sorry to ask...did ur bike fall and den u have this problem? Is ur sound like....dong dong dong dong den...machim like want to die and die den goes back again...den again ?

Since it is new, then the bikeshop should already do a carb tuning. Airfilter and plug are new and my bike didnt fall before.

The wierd sound came when i open throttle and close it suddenly. then the sound is not normal like it is "coughing". I suspect it could be an air leak or tuning gone wrong. The bike didnt sound as if it is going to die.

think u better go back and check on the filter..if leak or that airfilter paper is broke...many dirt may runs into ur carbs...

Somehow new bikes also have certain problems after laying there for a certain period of time.It may due to long time plugs also will be short short.Cos mechs tot its new and just push it to u..(not all mechs i mean)So better have it check b4 more other things occurs........ cheersssssssss

The mechanic also promised me he checked everything when I first collect the bike new. Then after 1 month, I realised my FC extremely bad. Then I found my tyre pressure was under pressure by 30%. Visually cannot notice. After pumping to normal press, fuel consumption improves alot. Tyre also not leaking.

Under pressure tire is also noisier.

This example shows new bike still need to be check personally by owner.

Recommended to do this weekly. I normally do this on a Sunday, before the start of a new week.

- check tire pressure

- check coolant level

- check oil level

- check/lube chain

This is to ensure a safe and plesant journey for the rest of the week.

thanks so much for e replies guys!

will check out my tyre pressure ltr =)

Hi Guys

A new owner for Spec 2.......

1)My FC really bad, travel on expressway with max speed of 100 km before Vetec open and light on my throuter.....travel for 260Km and pump 13.5 liter of fuel of caltex gold from JB...is it too high for FC?? how many liter does Spec 2 hold??

I have already change Engine Oil, spark plug, and wash my KNN air filter..new tire with presure front 250 psi and rear 290 psi...and the rev of my engine remain constant at 1 so I suppose need not tune my engine....and heard that we should not anyhow wash the cabrator so never touch.....

2) Whenever before i go pump patrol I tried to ram my bike and can see black colour smoke coming out from the exhart......is that normal?? Was told by friend have to do that to clear it.....but do lots of time and still lots of black smoke after hard ram of the throuter.....

can anyone help!!!!! high FC very hard to tahan lay........is a stock bike with a Givi "simpility" rear box and two E21 side box.....and belly pan

Your FC is about 19.5 -20km/liter. Slightly lower than other S4, but is about same as my Boldor.

Is it only when you quick ram for 1 sec, then you get black smoke? My new bike don't, but another guy new suzuki big bike GSX something got this symptom. I don't know if it is normal. Maybe can go for a continuous 120km/hr, 1 hr ride along NShighway to decarbonise or clear any leftover carbon deposits in yr silencer or somewhere. Many bikers believe in this.

If you hold the throttle at 9000rpm for 10sec, do you see black smoke coming out continously? If yes, something is seriously wrong. Maybe need to tune your engine or check carburettor or your coil or CDI for proper firing. Always check the easier & cheaper things first.

If you don't solve this problem, carbon deposits will accumulate inside the engine valves & exhaust silencer - making things progressively worsen.

You might want to check out Loois Motor - they got a 100k tuning machine plus a well known 20 yr experience mechanic. Good luck & cheers.

thank bro

The smoke came out at about 8k to 9 k RPM.....never hold for 10 sec...just turn and release (as u said about 1 sec)....and the exhart like vomit smoke like that.......low rpm dont see any smoke....

Can the engine take it with continuous holding of high rpm?? scare it spoilt the engine lay....

too much carbon will cause wat side effect to the engine??

all u need to try is,

wack 1 time hard on the bike. about 8-10k

u will see all the smk out.

but recommened to do it on a moving. instead of stationary as it may cause over rev and no outlet of the power.

too much carbon u will face possible sluggish performance.

But I thought when you go for engine tuning, you need to hold the rpm high continuously (bike stationary), then adjust fuel/air ratio to achieve minimum CO at the exhaust?

9k rpm is not high also, I can ride for 2hr at 9k rpm at speed of 140km/hr on NShighway.

Hi Guys,

I need your superfour expert help.

My vtec1 got sound tok tok tok when i ride and i can feel the vibration of that tok tok sound on my handle bar. is it because of my steering cone or wheel bearing gone already or what?

Do you have any idea?

Thanks in advance

Hey guys,

I need some help too. Recently, whenever I change gear, there is always a loud "thud" sound. I understand that this is normal from gear 1 up to gear 3 or sometimes gear 4. But what I notice is that it is getting louder than before, and there seem to be a short delay everytime I up the gear and rev. Now even my gear 5 also starting to have that "thud" sound. All these are irregardless whether I am at high or low rev.

I am speculating that it is because my chain is getting loose. I pillion quite often and I have not touch my chain since I bought it brand new on 1st Jan this year. Chain lub is applied religiously every weekend too.

Can anyone confirm with me if it is my chain problem? How do I check my chain to make sure that it is of the correct tightness?

Thanx a great deal~!

adjusting fuel/air ration does not require the holding of throttle at a high rpm. the only thing that you can adjust is the slow jet (i think) which affects the low - mid range and subsequently remains constant throughout the whole throttle range. there's no need to hold your throttle at high rpm while doing tuning. other shops might think otherwise.

Friedfishz >> when tightening your chain at bike shops, do sit on it and ask the mech to check for chain slack again. if they do not compensate enough for pillon, you chain might become loose very fast again. lube your chain regularly at 500km intervals for longer lasting chain. also, do not tighten the rear axel bolt too tight. this may cause the bearings (rear wheel got 2 bearings + 1 for sprocket) to wear out prematurely. do not let the mech use their feet or the airgun to tighten. hand tightened.

episode2 >> if you have changed your clutch plates recently, its no biggie. should be just your clutch basket. if you think your's is loud, wait till you hear a vara's (mine).

tick-tick sound from engine is normally the valve clearance. they should go away after warming up. if they get more pronounced and stay even after a ride, its time to get your valve clearance done.
