guys, i need some help regarding the coolant system in my version s cb400. i got the bike 3 days ago and i found out tat there is no coolant in the reservoir upon opening when i felt strong heat frm the combustion chamber after parking for 1 1/2 hrs. so i went to a petrol kisok to get coolant. but still the engine is damn hot.. i suspect the following may be not working:

 

a)coolant pump spoil

b)radiator fan not running

c)sensor spoil

d)cooling piping got stuck

 

so i m not sure wat is wrong with the cooling system.. i need some answers frm u all.. and also i would like to ask some questions

 

a)if cooling system really not working, what will happen to the engine(eg gasket melt?)

b)is it normal for the engine(combustion chamber) to be tat hot??

c)like wat u all said, coolant pump will not be activated if rpm is not there.is it true? so the whole cooling system will only run when certain rpm is reached or certain temperature is reached???

 

really need help regarding my issue cos i am very worried my cb400 will get damaged.. thx alot guys.. appreciated alot

i once encounter them b4 too..1st try ramp the engine for some times,to check if ur fan are ranning or not(ur engine r to be hot then the fan will ran)...it might took awhile for the radiator fan to ran...if the fan still not moving,tat mean ur fan got prob alr..but if it do ran..double check,working fan normally ran-off then ran again..wat i mean is...the the will ran,then shut off..then it will ran again..

 

2nd try topup the coolant..ramp the engine again..check frm the coolant reservior..if ur coolant do suck in,tat mean ur pump are fine..then check to see if ur coolant reservior getting hot or not..if ur reservior are getting hotter like boiling water,then mean ur thermostart are the prob..there r 2 thermostart..1 is are ur radiator&1 more inside..to be safe better check both..

 

hope tis help...follow the step slowly then u will know wat is the actual prob of ur coolant..recommed coolant try engine ice..tis the :thumb: :thumb:

After you filled up fully the coolant then you ride see if there is still the same amount of coolant or not. If not then its being burned out. Anyway Super 4 got heat problem. I dunno abt spec 3 and revo but generally i think CB got this problem. Suggest you solve wat is wrong before you change to engine ice coolant.

Tap water is cheaper.. Haha.. I got the same problem too when i got my S4. Went to shop and the mech told me my fan not working. I dunno what he meant cos i newbie. So i just say, ok ok repair..

 

Then a few days later, though fan works, but its still very hot.. I ask my frens they say no problem. Go buy proper coolant from shop, can already..

 

Then a few days later, i can still feel strong heat between my thighs whenever i ride.. I ask my dad. He simply says, "If its not hot, its not an engine."

 

Somehow he made sense. So i just forgot about the problem. Today my bike works fine. Either the problem is somehow solved, or my thighs are immune to the heat already.

 

Go get ur bike checked. Get a honest and reliable shop to take a look at ur bike. Try Engine Ice if u want. I did. At the end of the day, i just remember what my dad told me..

don't think tap water is too good right? i think at least bottled water or something will be cleaner..

can try change coolant hoses to the silicon ones? should run cooler that way? i think promo at sbf anniversary page is available at 180 plus free flush and top up of Motul inugel coolant and free radiator cap also.
