Hi guys, a general question, not mentioning any shop name, I'm thinking of purchasing a 'new' bike from a shop (the shop claims it's brand new, unused, and not registered), but it's a 2006 model. Since it was never registered, how can I check or be sure that it's really brand new and unused, and not a reconditioned bike which I heard that, for example, were sometimes used for racing in eg. Japan, then the whole bike is reconditioned and imported into Singapore? The reason why I'm getting a 2006 model is that because it's cheaper and I like that model. Any kind souls can share his knowledge or experience? I just don't want to kena chop carrot head. :sian:

i only know when u register bike..

LTA infor will indicate whether this is a first registration or a subsequent one..

check with LTA..maybe they can advise u where to get infor..

hhee..2006 manufacture...this is considered old bike..

recently 1 guy sued ,when his new car is mfg more than 6 months ago when he received his car..and he won.

Any more advices? I heard from an acquaintance whom i have now lost contact with, that reconditioned vehicles would be imported like a new one, that means it would not have even been registered once in Singapore. And the odometer would also have been reseted and stuffs like that.

 

Haiz, I guess I can't get enough information about this. Would have to count on my luck if I want to buy such a bike then.

Have heard of "chiem jui chia" sorta like the bike put in the warehouse for very long cannot sell then now have to sell it cheaper as new models come out. These bikes are first hand and unregistered just that cannot sell during that year.

dun need reset meter. just replace with a new 1 can liao.

Aside from looking at the odometer, perhaps you wanna check the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) at the side of the bike (usually at the right side of the frame or steering cone.) If it's a Honda bike, the 7th digit from the right will tell you the year of manufacture.

 

Aside from that, look for scuff marks which may be evident. These are the only way you can tell.

but just a quick question,even if u can tell the year of manufacture it goes back to the question of although it was manufactured at that year we still dunno if it has been used or not right?
