If im not wrong it's shorthand for "Continue On Installment"

 

Some people sell bikes that are currently still under financing, so they ask you to pay them a fixed amount + continue paying off the remaining loan the bike still has to either the bank or dealer.

Is this COI only relevant for bikes? I never come across such arrangement for cars.

 

COI is meant to be a hassle-free, "friendship" private arrangement?
