Thought I would let you know, I just picked up a full set of wheel bearings for my LC Tong - 5 bearings, at International Bearings on Toh Tuck Avenue.

The lot came to under $18.

How much would a shop charge?

I bought Koyo plain bearings for RM9 a piece at a bearing shop in JB. But of course I change them myself. Shops charge you extra for labour.

Ah Boy's Indian mechanic tried to bamboozle me once. He was changing fork oil for my Blackbird and I saw the my bearings were worn out. I asked him if he got bearings at the workshop, he told me yes, got very good bearings. Per piece $30++. I told him balls to you. I got the same bearings from his boss for less than $10. After that, he tried to twist here and there. I told him never mind. I walked over to a shop opposite and got the bearings there and fixed it myself as the wheels were already out. B@stard want to sell me at inflated price and pocket the difference.

Bearings from these shops better than original parts ?

Bike manufacturers usually do not made their bearing, they outsource it. Just get the old bearings and go to a specialist bearing shops and they will usually able to get the bearings for you.

Prices will varies from different brands, get though mid price brands will done. For racing get the better brand.

True but original parts will definitely fit and will perform to the tolerance and requirements of the bike it was purchased for.

Yes no ?

When I change my bearings at Guan Hoe, the suzuki agent, the box that come with the bearing show the bearing manufacter company's name with suzuki part number's sticker. Suzuki just stick a sticker over the box.

Just get the bearing manufactor's part number and you can get the bearing at less that half price of suzuki part.

These bearings from bearing manufacters are usually of standard tolerance for normal machine and bikes are consider normal machine.

You can get the bearing number off the bearing - usually somehting like 6205, 6304 etc, or you can give them the measurements - Inside Diameter, outside diameter, thickness, or you can search the web and find the size for your bike. If you are stuck, send me a PM

Changed my front wheel bearings for $49 at HKL (think including the oil seals).

Bike wobbled like siao and Struck there on Sunday.....dun know the price also (1st time changed bearings) so go ahead with the change.

But is it true that there will be further grinding of the front wheel brake pad until the brake pads are "leveled" off due to previous imbalance grinding of the brake pads?
