Hi all,

I am planning to recontract my broadband and there's an option to select for a wireless modem which we have to pay more every month for the subsciption. It is the 2-wire modem and the previous one I had was pretty lousy and didn't have good customer support.

What do you guys think of this modem actually? Was it just my luck to get a lousy one previously or is it really that bad?

Would it be better to sign up for the plan without the wireless modem and buy a more reputable brand from outside? Any recommendations if so, and what is the difference (between all the different modem brands like linksys etc.)?

Thanks all!

i just did a Starhub points claim and got a d-link n router full redemption i.e. free.

so if you have enough points don't recontract until you see they have good offers worth recontracting

right now this PC i'm using was for a new contract. it's sucky for high memory applications and multi tasking coz of the specs but it's free...

paiseh nothing to do with your exact question but is an option to save $$$ and mebbe use your new contract for more worthy stuff :)

Grounded... :/

What is the difference between wireless G modems and wireless N modems?

I have decided to buy either a Linksys or a D-Link modem. Anyone can tell me how do I see which one is better? I have no idea what the specs mentioned mean. I am using Singnet 3MBPS with 2 laptops and 1 desktop at home.

The few I had chosen are in the links below, hopefully someone can enlighten me!

Thanks all!

My first modem (with Singtel btw) lasted me 2 and a half years.

This box has been through all the sh*t like high intensity "torrent" downloads, connects to 3 PC's at home wired and wirelessly, has been left on most of the time, but only saw 5 sudden internet disruptions in its lifetime.

It was the old, silver 2Wire 2700 that came free with the abovementioned.

Now that I've recontracted the line, I've accepted the free 2Wire 2701HGV modem that they've given me. And it's still going strong :)

Small problem though: I put it under the sofa, but it gives such lousy signal strength to my iMac placed on the opposite side of the living room.

====================

By the way, the difference between Wireless WiFi (802.11) B, G, and N are their maximum theoretical speeds:

B = 11 megabits per second (Mbps)

G = 54 Mbps

N = 108 Mbps

Basically, it's how fast your files move between the computers and the router wirelessly.

Take note that "N" is under 'Draft'. If I were to describe it in Singaporean analogy, Wireless N is like in a "test water" kinda standard.

A public "Beta" if you want to describe it. But all the leading manufacturers went ahead and manufacture WiFi N products and began selling them anyways. A bit kancheong I must say....

I would like wireless for my desktop. Would the WaveRV II WiFi USB Adapter

make a good choice for receiving internet from a distance? Any help would be great thanks.

May i know if your laptop or desktop support N draft?, if it does not support then you wont get the N speed and signal strength.

How far is the distance?

is there any walls blocking you from the wireless access point?
