Ex-biker thinking of riding again

Hi am new here.

 

Used to ride a harley fatboy about six years ago. then gave it up when i got married. needed some money.

 

now am thinking of getting just a Steed/Shadow to ride around for fun. already have a car so don't want anything too ex.

 

but have some questions. hope u guys can answer and help me 'catch up'.

 

is it true spore doesn't bring in new Steeds/Shadows anymore? how come? it's such a nice bike.

 

am thinking of getting a modded Steed/Shadow. you know, ape-like bars, longer fork, matt powder-coat black paint job -- that kind of look, not sure if legal though.

 

Know anyone/anywhere I can turn to? any advice?

Mah Motors still have the new Shadow 400. Steed has been phased out long time ago. About the mods, it can be done, but just be careful the apes are not too high.

hi, since you rider a fat boy before, I suggest you get back a HD despite only for fun..

 

I drive as well, 19yrs off bike & get myself a dragstar 400 for "fun", soon I feel no "fun" & get a TDM, and finally I opt for HD low rider...not really for "fun" but it is very special & relax bike..

 

now I am suffering from my army old day's injury, whenever my lower back old injury get sensitive to road condition, I feel like giving up my bike, but when my condition turn good, I prefer riding...

 

I am not sure but think it is the high torque engine at lower rpm at hi-way speed make me feel comfortable & relax.

 

just my opinion.

Guess u are just like me! I just returned to biking after laying off for ....... 10 years!! Just gotten myself a Steed. Yes, for "fun" as I just rode it for only 4 times since I got it about 1.5 monhs ago.

 

But guess I am a bit rusty and need as much info as possible to "tune" the bike to life.

 

Thinking of getting GIvi side box for my ride but no idea where in JB. I will read more to get info in this forum! Thanks mates who got this forum running and maintaining it!

Same story here.

 

I've been riding since 86. I stopped riding in Dec 98 when I got married. Then I got a bike in Feb 2002 and have been riding occasionally during weekends.

sounds pretty much the sme here... 14yr break... made a comeback with a steed in Jan05. Helluva bike..kept me outa trouble. Took her to KL once, was fun but came back with a sore butt picked up an @t(african twin) last Jan06.

I thought my 2 year break was long. Didn't expect a lot of riders to lay off even longer. But you guys jump on big bikes again so quickly? I was scared. You can tell from my signature. 4 different types of cruisers in 1 year! Why? 'cos I decided to re-learn again from scratch. Strangely enough, I picked it up faster than I expected.

Yeah.. I stopped riding a few years ago because my wife says I already had 2 kids and another on the way. So I have to think of them .. what happens to them if something happens to me.

 

Anyhow, we got a car, but I have been hinting that I want a bike since beginning of the year. Then she got a job in downtown where public transport was not so convenient from where we lived. So I said... "take the car loh. I just buy a cheap bike and use it during the week. if I need the car, I'll take the car." sold. She got her car and I get my bike (Secondhand Shadow 400 for $3,800). I put down S$500 and I pay less for the bike each month than she pays for her petrol!

 

I was apprehensive about riding the heavy Shadow at first, but after a couple of days, I had no probs. It's low enough so it is more stable. And a bigger bike will stop you from squeezing between cars too much.

Wow, seems like alot of retirees gone back to work already? haha...I have stopped riding for about 1.5 yrs and feel the itch already. Have been looking around and dunno which bike to buy, or rather, try not to buy. haha. A few on my list, Shadow, dragstar, atlantic , x9 or return back to HD. miss smelling the smoke. haha..

Since u feel that Harleys r the high end bikes, have u ever thot bout

big metric cruisers? The likes of Honda Valkyrie, new Shadow 750(shaftdrive dude),

Yammy Dragstar1100, Honda VTX1300 so on...........

 

Much less than Harley, but not less in performance.

Less vibrations too. (no wonder the new hogs comes wif rubber inserts?)

Wow! So many ex-bikers or veterans! Maybe we should meet up sometime especially the Steeds and Dragstars guys. Then as veterans, we will realise how much we have missed out!!

 

But one thing for sure, traffic seems to be getting heavy for us bikers. And 4-wheelers (I am one too) have no regards for us as I was nearly hit by one at Fort Road. I have the right of way but he just came turning right into my path but somehow I suspected he was going to disregard me.

 

Let's see how we can do to imprve our rides even though some of our Steeds are more than a decade old, mine is one of them.

2004 got a used Ducati M400 rode only 4 times sold of after 2years....

 

 

2006 I got a RoadKing to ride it once a week.
