It's really not necessary but it is something nice looking I guess. I would get one if I could get a good one very cheap but otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Steer clear of the really cheapo ones as they will give you heavy steering at low speeds and make the bike annoying to ride slowly.

Ohlins are always good, WP make good dampers as well, Hyperpro have some nice ones too but none of them are cheap.

The damper itself isn't model specific, its the brackets that make it suit a certain bike so you can generally buy a damper from any bike and then get the brackets made up for the CBR400.

Got my new front brake discs from the US last week so will put them on my CBR soon as well. $115 for a set, good stuff :)

issit necessary?

or for aesthetic purposes?

well during my trip to kulai I find my bike quite difficult to maintain at high speed during bends. esp bumpy rds so was hopping to get a damper to make the bike more stable during high speed. maybe will fix it oni goin to long trips and not in sg rd but of coz my budget is not more than $300 so any recommendations?

I reckon the problems probably lies in your suspension set up or something along the line, and by using Damper, ya merely masking a problem. Get to the root of the problem.

I have owned a CBR400 for 4 years and did track days with it, never really warrant a need for damper.

For 300 bucks, I can get my fork and shock rebuild, and give me many many memorable rides thereafter.

I have areadi done up my forks and steering cone recently and they are working perfectly fine. its just tat wen u goin uphill along the bri frm kulai den the strong wind blows give me the creeps wen my bike sway abit. don realli feel secure as after the uphill goin down if got any bumps worried the handle will slip if landed not straight. hope u guys get wat i mean. my bike nothin wrong actually but wld like to make it more secure wen travelling high speed esp wen encounting bends.

understand its not realli neccessary as been travelling to kulai quite often until last week got the creeps wen travelling above 230 kph so decided to get a damper. still waiting for my shock to arrive.....:sian:

most of the time we have overlook the fact that its the rider input that causing the disturbance.

Damper is for really bad headshakes. for highspeed stability, really depends on your suspension set up, may i check whats your laden sag for the front and rear?

wat do u mean by bad headshakes? if highspeed just solely depend on suspension oni den wats the main purpose for damper?

wat il4 mean for headshake is when u go highspeed, yr handlebar tend to turn left and rite...

damper is there for u to control those rite and left disturbance...

if u feel yr bike unstable, u need to check yr shock...

the power cut in cbr is there to tell u that the bike handling power is the lowest at that speed, anymore than that power cut speed mean quite dangerous le...
