Scooter 2 more yrs coe but worried more repairs.. advice pls

My scooter coe is up in abt 26 mths time. I'm 3rd owner and have had for abt 2 yrs.. no problems.

 

2 mths back the coe card reader went kaput so changed. Then following mth throttle cable jammed and battery died. I figured i needed to use it more - i only use it now and then to buy groceries (large storage spaces). Was ok riding for a mth..

 

until yest.. suddenly can't start.. battery like dead again. Can kick start and ride but horn weak.

 

Any advice what to do? If i send back to shop the guy may say rectifier problem change.. (if he didn't find it to be the problem when changing battery then he may not find real problem).. I'm afraid to send it for more repairs in case more problems, and i dun really need it.

1) How old is your bike?

2) How old is your battery?

3) Do you plan to troubleshoot yourself? If yes, get a multimeter and a battery charger.

 

If you bring to shop, they will tell u ur battery is dead and needs to be replaced. However, if your battery is only a few months old, they will take it out and charge for you, but problem will resurface again as you ride too little.

Usually, for those tight in cash, they won't do anything and continue to kick start.

@kaiq - Which is the best place to charge the battery? Cash would not be an issue.

If cash is not an issue and you know how to take out the battery, buy a battery charger that u can charge at home.

 

For me, I would take out the battery and charge it at home using a CTEK charger bought many years ago. Shops can do the charging, but they will probably do a fast charge. Mine I do it at home as it's using a 3-pin plug, slow charge though.

 

Otherwise, go to a reputable shop which you trust to ask for a battery check - shop like Planet are some I trust.
