just bought a 27 year old chappy and when i took off the chain guard to wash and relube the chain last weekend, i saw that it does not have a chain slider. and when stationary, the chain rests a little on the swing-arm

now, my immediate thought is that when i m running the bike, the chain will be rubbing and hence 'sawing' the swing-arm slowly but surely

as silly as it sounds, is it ok to continue riding the bike without a chain slider?

i do not mind having one fitted, in fact i rather do that. however i think parts will be hard to come by. and the other thing is, i didn't notice any holes to attach a slider, meaning it might not have comes with a factory slider at all?

maybe u state the bike model so that is easier for bros here to advise u..

if u notice that there is no holes to hold the chain slider(cos dun hav in the 1st place), maybe yr chain tension isn't enough.. tighten the chain..

hahahha

actually, i did state my bike model

its a 1982 yamaha LB80 chappy

its a old bike so not so commonly found dis days

meaning original parts maybe hard to come by

yes, IIRC, there wasn't any original holes to screw a chain slider down

but i just thought its abit odd not to have one

unless the chain clears the swing-arm significantly

it rests just abit on the swing-arm now

and the slack looks just about right

not sure if its a good idea to tighten it further though

when ur bike move, the chain will tighten up so it wont actually cut ur swing arm unless u really c or feel a cut on ur swing arm. try looking on other ppl bike when u are on the road moving. u will know wat i trying to say

roger that.....

but i decided to be abit kiasu, as in if i ever come across a chain slider that size etc is compatible, will prob bolt one down just for peace of mind

thanks

unless you wanna risk damaging your swing arm, yes. :)

there IS a chain slider for Chappy, but it's not in the 80cc's partlist diagram, it's only through the 50cc Chappy partslist that you're able to source for the part number for the rubber chain slider.

it's just a piece of rubber that attaches through the swingarm bolt, having said that, it requires the swingarm to be unbolted to just slide that piece of chain slider rubber in. i know there is, as i have a couple pieces on hand, but it's meant to pass on to someone else. try looking through cmsnl.com for referencing part numbers.

hope this helps.

a new direction, a new inspiration

Nolah...When you accelerate the top part of the chain will tighten, bottom one will slack,but...when you decelerate(using engine braking) the bottom will tighten and top will slack.:thumb::thumb:
