Ride Report;

"Dawn Patrol"

Date/Time: 26/9/10 (Sun) / 0530 - 1300 hrs

Course Review

Stage 1: Escape from Toa Payoh

Flight Leader: Cat

Exited Toa Payoh through "secret" route to avoid simulated congestion at usual Braddell and PIE routes.

Plotted course to famous bike shops in Geylang area (for future reference) before entering the ECP via Sheares Bridge as the sun rose above the horizon.

Stage 2: Sunrise Interception

Flight Leaders: @nabil15 , @samuelftw5

Using their superior horsepower and road presence, Class 2A riders Nabil and Samuel paved the way to Bayshore area where we left the deserted motorway for dual carriageways through light residential areas to Changi.

Main convoy collaborated with a very friendly SBS Volvo B10M (single decker) bus driver to grant safe passage to some pro cyclists making their way uphill out of Changi North on public roads.

Once reaching our initial point at Loyang Offshore Base Cat assumed lead position and timed the convoy's arrival to coincide a low altitude flypast from a Singapore Airlines Boeing 767 landing at Changi Airport.

The scouting party, comprising CK and KJ, were already on site having advanced to the target area and cleared the photoshoot site before the main convoy's arrival.

We observed numerous aircraft landing and had a discussion on aerospace and automotive technology there and then, the technical session led by @ProfCJP and @vyruz

It appeared a lot of aircraft were dumping large amounts of fuel over the sea to reduce their landing weight today, possibly by order of Air Traffic Control in an attempt to reduce landing distances (thus enabling a tighter landing schedule).

Special Stage (3): Eastern Industrial Highway

Flight Leader: @samuelftw5 & Cat

After the photoshoot at Changi Beach Carpark III we headed northwest to the pitstop location at Anchorvale.

We made a detour to avoid heavy traffic on the TPE, instead using an industrial road which was, being a Sunday, completely empty.

@samuelftw5 assumed lead scout position during the run through the short rural special stage.

4: Egress from Anchorvale

After our pit stop at Anchorvale MacDonalds the motorised recon squadron split into two detachments.

Flight 1/1 led by @KJ. and CK performed fighter escort and navigation support for @vyruz homeward bound to Lavender area.

Flight 1/2 led by @ProfCJP proceeded to Toa Payoh Central for our bike wash / maintenence discussions session.

Conclusion:

All in all, a highly successful and surprisingly educational outing, with @vyruz taking the lead in an advanced riding theory seminar during our Anchorvale pit stop.

Our "rules of engagement" led to all members appearing at the meeting site on time (almost simultaneously) while we achieved our secondary objective of promoting road safety... without the boring talk.

Riding is our common language, and should we really be concerned about safety, then it is yesterday's fashion to think about personal defense - instead, one should review local driving/riding conditions and look out for OTHERS needs first ... If you want others to honour your right of way :D

As far as I'm concerned, I love American highway code and civilised road behaviour... and so do my taxi driving comrades on the road. It's fun when you tag team with an experienced cab driver and support each other in getting somewhere on time and on target :D

Order of Battle:

Team "Gunsmith Cats"

1. Cat (CBX200R "Sheryl Nome Custom")

2. @nabil15 (CB400R "Purple Fury")

3. @samuelftw5 (RVF)

4. @vyruz (Aprilia RS "Spain's No.1")

5. @ProfCJP (TA200)

6. @KJ. (Hyosung Comet GT-R)

7. CK (Aprilia RS '09)

Lol. Go PG - no cars.

First and second part the traffic was totally non-issue, however heading back to TPY took a bit of 'typical motorcycle maneuvers'.

Jianpin's no brand/useless hi gloss polish is actually very good. It adds a layer of extra-glossy coat to painted surfaces, plastic boxes etc etc and also serves as a cleaning agent. It dissolves dirt and is resistant to water and bird sh1t.

Made in china products ftw!

For those interested in next saturday night's low-cost class 2B/2A outing, please proceed to midnight club thread.. since, it is midnight and all :D

ps: pics - facebook. :p @nabil15 owes me the video uploads :p Like I smsed, just dump them into windows movie maker and upload the compressed files..

PSB is a Singapore only safety testing certification. Definitely if you have a Snell Foundation approved helmet, it is a superior protective device than PSB... PSB sticker can be found on most 'common' helmets, ie those from Helmetboys, but obviously not on cafe racer/scooter type half-helmets which are IMO silly to wear. Technically, it is not legal for a retailer to sell non PSB approved helmet but I have found no satisfactory answer for high end non PSB helmets other than that it is not economical to send a batch of thousand dollar pro-grade FF helmets for PSB certification (which involves destructive testing).

Since you're living and riding in Singapore it makes sense to get something PSB approved in case of accident claims, etc, but for the hardcore/wealthy if you really want to protect your head in a high speed crash, I'd get a Snell :3

PSB is like the Singapore version of the American DOT certification (Department of Transportation).

i mean the helm itself got the sticker de, just that my colleague peel off the sticker, is it still safe to wear if LTA or traffic saw my helm no sticker?

Still safe. So long as you're not using 'bicycle helmet' the authorities won't really care. It is well known that after a while the sticker just wears or peels off.

So legally speaking, PSB approved helmet or not is really not a good bargaining chip. It's unlike DOT or Snell certifications which I notice, are embossed into the helmet paint itself.

Changed my forum nick. Don want more ppl calling me professor. LOL

Kenny, i dropped my bike again

Ya, I won't call you Professor if you call me Cat :D More cute!

so that means it's approve to wear that helm without sticker right?
