Hey, Im not sure if this is necessarily a problem with the bike, or myself..

My bikes seems to be pretty hard to change into second without going into neutral, especially when the RPM's are very high in 1st. Now, I do change gears pretty fast so im not sure if its me not having the clutch in long enough, but ive tested it and it seems like it just wont go into 2nd when the RPM's are way up.

It also seems pretty hard shifting when downshifting to 2nd/1st from higher gears when coming to a stop.

Just got an oil change, so any ideas of how to get past this? (I can deal with it, but its kinda annoying, my mechanic said it would prob be cheaper to just deal with it if it was something major)

Or any ideas of better operation of people who have had similar issues?

Or like a way to change the clutch lever to take less upper movement to make it change gears?

I faced that problem too, but managed to get it sorted out after I changed my oil. So now it isn't annoying to me.

The clutch lever can be adjusted by the two screws, by either lossening or tightening it. I am not sure if the clutch would play a role in affecting the gears...but maybe a smoother clutch release would help I suppose?

Ya just changed my oil, figured it would do something but it didnt do much. And all this happens with the clutch in, when changing from first to second.

Just tested it again, and seems to be working o.k. in low RPM's, but noticable trouble kicking past neutral into second even in low RPM's.

The whole adjusting of the clutch I figured, if i made it lower distance to kick up, would help me kick past neutral easier.

Any other ideas?

wear shoes that the sole is much thinner. so that you have more strength when kicking to 2nd gear, better feel too

Always ride safely and defensively.

Repair bike cheap and fast,

Repair body expensive and slow.

actually, as i was testing it last night, it seemed when I pulled the clutch in as far as it could go, its much easier to shift gears. So i assume there is a way to adjust the cable from the shift handle? (not from the numbered circular dial, thats set as far as it can go) but like another way to make it so where the clutch pulls harder?

noe wat, you're describing all the symptoms of a worn clutch cable, right down to the problem going away when you increase freeplay. next you'll start noticing the bike stalls when clutched in 1st gear coz despite clutching in fully, its still slightly engaged.

i suggest get the cable changed. u wont be able to ride around the problem coz once it wears out, it will rapidly deteriorate until until its next to impossible to ride.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Ok. now next question would be... Where do I get a clutch cable for a 1992 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6 (ZX600-D3) at? Like a website or something (preferable NA website ^^)

And last question would be.. Is this something fairly simple to do myself?

I have a Haynes manual for my bike but havent looked through anything having to do with this yet.

i think you can find clutch cables that are universal and not model-specific, though i assume u'd need to know the length used on ur bike. its just the cable running out of your clutch lever down to your gear box, which you can see quite clearly. looking at the mechanic change it, i assume its a fairly simple job for any mechanically-minded person. but since turning a screw driver is the limit of my mechanical expertise, i cant really say how.

mebbe this website venhill cable kits. venhill products seem to be good quality. i'm using their steel braided hoses. personally i'd just get a shop to do it, but thats just me.

Need to strip out the tranny.

Cound be the tongs catching the tranny shaft or just a simple spring lacking tension or any mis-guided parts of the tranny.
