Would like to seek advice on my Yusa wet-cell battery installed on my Piaggio X8 scooter. Bought it about 8 months ago. The battery went low on power and could not start the engine yesterday. Took out the battery and saw the electrolyte level was super low, as I have not top up any water since using it!! Yes, that's my negligence.

I got battery water to top up the level since. But of course, still can't start. I want to confirm if battery is spoil, before buying a new one. Anyone able to help me charge the battery?

Thks to all for the advice. I went to LAB and got a new wet battery. They say charge also no guarantee battery will be okay. For me it's a lesson to remember to top up with battery water regularly next time.

Anyway, I measure the old battery, reads 11.9V. Just for education purpose, what are you guys' view on the likelihood of the battery spoiling permanently because of failure to top up battery water in this case?

there is still a chance that the battery is ok just that insufficent water inside to induce the charge. no harm trying to recharge it and see if it's ok.

Btw, off topic abit. Do you guys know how to tell that rectifier is working fine and tell-tale signs of it spoiling? Would using a Digital multimeter (http://www.doctronics.co.uk/meter.htm) to measure the battery voltage at idling be useful?

Yes that's what our doc ponytail does too.... it's a series of test....

put on main stand , start bike, use a amm meter to check the voltage and rev a little, if no reaction to voltage, that could means your rec. got problem liao... if after change rec still same, then bigger prob liao.... could be one of the wire in coil area short circuited....

of cos that's the last of the last cos by opening coil side, the casket and the rest of its stuff aren't cheap...... hence our doc ponytail always keep that to the last.
