Hi Bros,

I am just got myself a bike and converted to sg license. I am a bit confused about the traffic light rules at a cross junction so hope you guys can enlighten me.

scenario 1 @ cross junction

go straight traffic light is green. Turn right traffic light is not lit.

Can i turn right when the traffic from opposite direction is clear?

or should i wait for the turn right light to go green

scenario 2 @ T junction

traffic light is green (for turn right). Turn left traffic light is not lit.

Can i turn left when the traffic from opposite direction is clear?

or should i wait for the turn left light to go green

1: Go when clear, unless it's there's the 3 colours Right Turn system, where u have red, amber and green arrows. Else, normal junction, you may turn right, when clear.

2: Go Go Go. I suppose the extreme left lane is both left and right turning. The left turn light will only lit up before the green light is lit, to clear off initial left turning vehicles. Once it's green, all vehicles may proceed. (If my assumption of the scenario is wrong, please describe in better detail.)

Buy a Basic Theory book from local bookstores or revise your RTT handbook if they gave you any when converting. The knowledge may save your life some day.

Don't forget at certain junctions, there are GREEN Lights, but RED Arrows.

In this case do not turn right, even if traffic is clear.

Wait for the GREEN Arrow to appear before turning.

thanks shunoski & silent hunter :)

for my case, there is no three color for left or right turn :) only green arrows or unlit light

i have a basic theory handbook but it did not cover this scenario :)

Yup, those 3 colours Arrow will be in a vertical column beside the main traffic light. Do keep a watch out for them. Obey the colour of the arrows in that case.
