Hi, i was trying to diy spray painting my bike box but after finish painting and drying, the end product seemed to be very sticky on the surface. Is there any thing that i need to apply after painting to make it smooth? :cheeky:

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

If it's sticky after u spray I suspect that u never clean the box well enough before u paint it..

apparently, some box material is no good for spray paint. for example, most of the givi and kappa boxes that have the rougher finish isn't good for spray painting. end up will get blotchy paintwork :(

it took me a long time to learn how to do a proper paint jobs, let me share2.:) can apply to almost anything. Patience is the Key!!!

1) make sure surface is smooth, primer and sand paper. primer usually is to protect your surface that your painting on. No primer? NVM, can apply a thick coat of paint than sandpaper till smooth.

2)smooth already?. go clean the surface with soapy water.( i use glass cleaner, works fine) make sure free from dust, oil, hair?, grease, because if not you might get orange skin effect.

3) clean already, apply your color coat ( professional application usually: primer-sealer-base coat- color coat-(designs)-clear coat). This part is where u paint it the way u want to look. ( for spray can distance should be 15-30cm away from surface. control pressure of paint and constantly move it around to get and even coat. DO NOT STAY at one spot, will get paint drips! ONE THIN LAYER AT A TIME. wana know why? Because thick layer dries slower actually, when you touch the surface it seems dry but not underneath. this will lead to soft paint coat. NOT GOOD.) be patience one thin coat at a time, wait til really dry:)

4)once Dry, clean surface with soapy water and check for rough or uneven surface. once okay, apply clear coat (lacquer), same thing here, one thin coat at a time.

SECRET TO GET HIGH GLOSS FINISH EVEN WHEN USING SPRAY CAN LACQUER:thumb:.:

1) make sure clear coat is thick. use a 1500-2000 grid sand paper and wet sand any rough surface.

2) clean surface with soapy water and run your hands to check that the whole surface is smooth.

3) use polishing cloth and brasso. yes brasso. polish surface till shine. ( fast, circular motion)

*4) if your lazy to polish. just spray one more coat of paint will do.

if you were to polish your paint it might shine, BUT it also might wear the paint off, so not recommended. Usually Clear coat/ Lacquer when polish will have the high gloss look. like car finish.:thumb:
