Dear planeteers,

If there are any of you left that is. hehehehe. Anyway, I lay up my bike for quite a while and now it is back alive again. And yes, I am still faithfully riding my planet, athough only occassionally.

Now, back to DIY again.

As most planeteers have encountered this problem of battery not charging, I would like to suggest you do a direct connection to the rectifier as in the picture attached.

The original connector sucks to the core and u cannot really clean it well. The original connections are quite loose and hence the battery does not charge properly. Many a times, we have to push start the bike which is not a very nice to to do.

The connectors used here can be bought from Sim Lim Tower. Cheap and good. Just slice off the connector, connect each one to the new connectors you bought and that is it. Be sure to label them so that you don't connect them wrongly, which can become a problem. Now no matter how much the bike vibrates, the connection is tight and the battery charges.

I can start the bike on a weekly basis, the bike starts easily.

Now we come to changing your coolant.

Currently I am using Maxima Coolaide. Good stuff. I got a premix bottle. They come in about 1.8 liter bottle. Planet uses about 1.3 liter. There is no gauge on the bottle, so pour and check on the MAX line on the coolant container. Shine a light into the container and you will be able to see it easily.

1) Unscrew the coolant drain screw on the left side of the bike, just above the front sprocket cover. The coolant will start to drain out slowly. Now you unscrew the coolant cap and the coolant will come gushing out. Get a tray or a plastic bag to contain the draining coolant

2) After the coolant is drained, this is what i did. You can probably skip this step if you are not fussy. Screw back the coolant drain screw. Pour in 1.3 liters of DISTILLED water. Cap back the coolant cap. Start the bike to warm the bike, about 2-3 minutes. Wait for about a min or so. Now drain the coolant again of DISTILLED water.

3) Screw back the coolant drain screw after everything is drained. Pour in the Maxima coolaide or whatever coolant u like. Fill it to the max line (1.3 liters) DO NOT OVERFILL.

4) Put the coolant cap back on and start the bike for 2-3 minutes to get rid of possible bubbles. That's it.

Dear planet owners,

For those looking for generic replacement parts, you can try this place. Although it is in UK and they charge in pounds, the cost is lower than trying to buy an OEM piston and barrel (block). They have an ebay site too. So definitely you can ship them to Singapore.

Cagiva mito block and piston. Usable for Cagiva planet

and this site too. We are not part of the EU union, so we don't have to pay VAT. So it costs 157.44 pounds

Had been riding the planet since 2000... Been loving it since then. Last endurance ride of 680km to Perak Kuala Kangsar ie. http://www.perakriversafari.com.my ... on 01-May-09. If superbikes had seen me at Seremban R&R... well that's me. But need to get more of this bike since 120km/h on the north-south highway is insufficient. At that speed Malaysian lorries and buses tends to irritate you as you will not be able to overtake or get away from them. In Singapore feels that planet is everythig but in Malaysia highway the planet is nothing; a loser. Wondering why Malaysia planet can reach 140km/h but not for Singapore planet bike. Will be coming down to excel to check on bike for enlightenment. If planet can reach 140km/h will renew COE else bye.. bye .. planet... Maybe, terra adventure since claim can reach at least 130km/h even though 4 stroke with less power.

Will miss planet if that is the case since planet had not been given me headaches for nearly 10years for now, eventhough had fallen from bike for 4 times due to unforeseen circumstances such as releasing my emotions on her. This bike is build to lasts with the best design ever.
