oooooo... so wat must be done to rectify the compression problem???

1) change piston ring

2) change piston (which comes with new piston ring)

refer to my long post on changing of piston aka top end overhaul.

how slow is your accleration now at 41? is it very bad at slopes or normal startup got problem? i dun need a lean mean pickup monster ... kekeke

it's not that bad on a rear 41, but compared to other bikes, ya, it's a bit of a drag on the 1st 25m or so, but top end is pretty good.

fuel light didn't light up, and i checked the tank, so don't think it is a fuel problem. When i stopped on the shoulder to try to restart the bike, it only started after a few minutes.

any kinked hoses near the carb areas?

when the bike does the suddenly lose power thingy, drift to the side of the road. off your bike and open up your fuel cap. do you hear a sudden swooshing sound?

Posted

ok got the bike running again, after reading thru the earlier threads and some other threads, realised that it was a fuel problem, got some petrol in and after a while it started to run again. However, when the problem started, I could still hear sloshing when i shoke the tank. Is there some thing wrong with the fuel light, or is the bike just like that?

dun shake the tank. after riding, the engine cut occurs again, park aside the bike. jus open the fuel cap and listen if there is any swooshing sound. dun need to shake tank.

the reason you would hear a swooshing sound is there is a vaccum inside the tank. the carb is not able to take in fuel. hence your bike stalls. no fuel, no go.

once you open the fuel cap, air is introduce and the fuel starts to flow, this sudden introduction of air cause a difference in the air pressure inside the fuel tank and the fuel starts moving around in the tank when the pressure equalise. i'm putting it in a simple way.

so if you have this swooshing sound, tell your mech. he'll check all the hoses for you. your mech is like your doctor, he cannot cure your bike if you cannot describe the symptons to him. you can check the hoses yourself and straighten out all kinked hoses

if you jus ran out of fuel, in the thread is a calculation on when to re-fuel if your fuel light doesn't work.

hey brudder, cheapo on the 2T, expensive on the rear bearings. i got mine at $28 or $35 (can't rem) without GST. The ones which you replace comes with a metal cover window for the bearings or clear ones?

can't rem the brand but it's much better than the ones the previous bike owner used. and cheaper too. this kind of operation can do with xiao boon, cheap and good. but of course do at minerva got eugene lah. :thumb:

my advice is dun save on the 2T, planet very sensitive to inferior 2T. unless yours is cheap and good. then better post here.

by the way, you changed your sprocks already? rem you were looking for afam the other time.

you can change the air filter to K&N ones, but my mech advice against it. he said it would be noisy and no increment in performance.

as of the performance, i have no ideas how to weight it out cause din really tried other sportbikes be4.

Hello, not like i wanted to change my bearings on purpose =)

Was riding around mah motors when the rear wheel started to give a horrible grinding sound that basically scared the crap out of pedestrians. i could either ride slowly to minerva or tow it to Excel.

the cost of bearings quoted at minerva was about $30, cost of labour $20, after GST came to $53.13

I'm running on a 14/39 ratio. Shitty at the lights but I do bout 20km a day on the e'way, so the gearing helps fuel economy a bit.

Never heard of a k&n filter for the planet. Which part number is it? I'm running a filter that i rebuilt from some air filtration fibre cos the previous owner let the filter rot. The jetting is totally screwed right now, so anything is better than what i'm running.

My planet's on scrambler bars, courtesy of a previous owner. No bar ends to damp out the vibrations and way too wide for tight squeezing. I'm heading down to Excel to swap out to Super4 bars with bar-ends... Lawrence quoted $65 on the phone.

So far done about 100km on the Castrol Activ. Nothing unusual reported... yet. Less smokey in the morning though. But i have to say that my riding habits involve low rev cruising on the e'way, so my Planet's needs for expensive oil are less.

oh, that explains the extra $20 on the bearings. xiao boon showed me 2 kinds. one cost about $18, the other $28. the ones i had before was the $18 kind. the previous owner did it at minvera at the price you did. but like you said, it wasn't if you had a choice.

the K&N one is for Mito so says xiao boon . ask him about it when you go down to get your bars. he advised against it, but you can ask him why.

and for the bars, you can get some nice ones at chong aik. yellow ones to go with your planet. then get those playlife grips at Excel and you are good for squeezing. some nice chiong carbon fibre mirrors from a shop near LAB would be nice too.

Thanks for the tip on the filter... will check it out today.

Will prolly get a chrome bar, cos I'm leaning towards repraying my Planet gloss black, and possibly mounting a RXZ nose fairing on it as well... I'll let you know if that's possible heh

hi Seraphim! ! ! mine is a gloss black planet..

hmm... imo... i think it looks dull... so are u sure?...

i am aiming for yellow or red planet..

maybe going for a spray job

u are using the 14/39 ratio.. how is pick up?... is it slow until it is a nusiance to other road users?... and slope climbing abilities??

yes.. do let us knoe if its possible to mount a rxz nose!... kekeke

terry> i ma using this batt..

Okay, spent $200 today... you be the judge of value for money =)

Chrome handlebar + bracket = $100

Replaced the handlebar for $60, 2nd hand planet bracket for $40. I was previously using a scrambler bar + bracket.

Result: Bike's less vibey due to balancers and can squeeze better. However, the mirrors are not as wide apart so field of view is a little diminished.

K&N filter + Mod air induction pipe + Rejetting + Tuning= $100

Basically, xiao boon stripped out the Planet air box, and replaced it with a K&N radial filter plus pipe. There's no airbox now, but then again previously i didn't have a proper air filter.

Result: Bike's incredibly anti-social now, with a booming induction roar that sounds like a cross between a harley and scrambler. On the positive side, midrange feels improved and throttle response is better.

With all the money I'm throwing at this bike, I think I'll stick with it for a while yet... heh =)

To Gauntlet, actually I feel that gloss black is nicer cos it shines better. Either that or a glossy gunmetal grey. Didn't ask about the RXZ nose fairing... I might have been tempted to break my budget this month =) In terms of moving off at the lights, 14/39 is no big deal. The RS125 runs a worse ratio (16/43?) and it moves off fine, so 14/39 doesn't hurt much.

brudder, it all sounds reasonable, price wise. word of advise, without the airbox, K&N mod, airflow is much higher, very easy to go lean. so make sure good full syn 2T is used. but i think xiao boon would have done the richen the jettings for you, so shouldn't be a problem.

the noise is the reason xiao boon advise me against it, cos to improve performance, he would recommend modding the header, carbie before he touch the airbox. but i guess yours was more of a need for a filter rather than performance.

and ya, the side mirror's view would be restricted, jus rem that all important blind spot checking, shouldn't be a problem. jus a matter of getting used to. and hence the suggestion of getting some nice side mirrors in the earlier post

ya, i spent quite a bit on my planet too, still pretty much a love affair, so i'll stick with it till i can get a raptor650 or monster800. haven't got time to register for 2A yet.

for the paint work, i suggest the new raptor125 painwork for black. nice. :thumb:

but i'm more partial to the red paint scheme of course :lovestruck:

Guess I'm going back to R2 then.... bleh =)

My next projected upgrade would be sometime next month. Will probably re-cushion and re-wrap the seat, possibly at 219 motorshop.

Oh yeah, and replace those whingy indicators. Friend of mine says First Motor does indicators at $10 each, $40 total for all four. Any recommendations?

I'm using some aftermarket suzuki mirrors... not too bad actually, and nicely chromed too. Think it's about $12 each from Regina/Ah Boy.

bro, $10 each is a very good price. i buy one at around $12 from Regina and do it myself. chiong ones. but much better in quality and looks exactly the same. those $10 ones, do they look and fit like the stock or is it otherwise?

rewrapping at the shop besides lab costs about $25 +/-, can't remember the exact price. recushion i'm not sure about the price. but will definitely be cheaper than the 219 shop. you can do a yellow and black combo too~! :sorry:

dun know why, but R2 gives out more smoke than motul600. went thru 4 bottles of R2 and changed to motul600. i a convert man! try one bottle lah. good stuff, cannot bluff. after 2 letters from NEA, R2 is out for me.

and i would definitely be looking at those side mirrors you are talking about. i'm using those small black "cagiva" mirrors from LAB and i can't see sh*t.
