First off, hi to everyone, its been a while since I've posted. Been busy with schoolwork and all that.

Have to change my tyres soon, are there any shops that anyone can recommend? Hopefully a place that has good, reliable service and won't chop carrot head one. Thanks in advance!

Hey, got a wierd request here. You all might recall that my bike was dropped by some @#$ sometime back. The thing is, that fall also damaged the 2 screw supports that holds the tailight cover. A couple of days ago, the supports finally died and my tailight fell off when I was riding. I knows its my fault and all, but does anyone have a spare tailight cover?

P.S. I would also like to know if a yamaha speedo works for the planet.

Posted

hi there. the yamaha speedo meter will work with the planet as mine was fixed with one. however, it only shows the speed, odometer as well as a trip meter.

I think the original planet meter shows a bit more things like coolant temp etc... (correct me if i m wrong)

btw, anybody know how much does a original planet speedo meter cost?

the original spedo cost $400+ when i ask minerva i thing last month.excel asking for $200+ but i dont know wheather it the original.ice88 how much does the yamaha spedo cost and where do u get it?and if im not mistaken it was your bike i saw at minirva red colour with the yamaha speedo right a while back

Got the following questions to ask here...

1. What's the machine price of a planet now?

2. Insurance, any examples will do. Just need a rough gauge.

3. How's the maintenance like?

4. Lastly, where can I find 1?

Thanks in advance!

Hi all, would like to share a recent experience of mine, as well as ask for advice.

Recently sent my bike in for servicing. It was after the servicing that I experienced a problem: Whenever I clutch in, e.g. at a traffic light, if the rpm is too low, I would feel the clutch engage and the bike starting to move forward a little; eventually the engine dies. A friend told me that it was because my clutch wire was loose, so I brought my bike back to the shop (HKL). Was quoted $95 for a new wire! The mech suggested using a honda or yamaha wire first to see if it was a fit, and luckily a s4 clutch wire did the job.

So now, i have to get used to a new biting point. Problem is, the original problem has not resolved itself yet. I still have to rev the engine a little whenever I clutch in to prevent the clutch from engaging and I fear that this is doing damage to the clutch plate. At 95 bucks for the wire alone, I don't want to think how much the plate lining or even the plate itself costs.

Does anyone have a similar experience or suggestions? Thanks!

here are the possiblilities :

1) clutch cable loose = which you have already changed and not solved the problem. tighten the cable just a bit more to see if it works

2) clutch plates need changing = possible but unlikely, cagiva planet plates lasts very well

3) loss of compression = piston ring needs changing. expensive (forgot how much already). Get it done at minvera. but it's expensive. they should have new rings now that the raptor 125 is in town. last time i had to change the whole piston cos the rings and piston comes in a set. hope they have the rings only this time. cagiva planet uses a double ring unlike mito which uses a single ring. uncompatible.

above possibililties needs a good mech to find out.

in the mean time, maintain your throttle when you are in 1st gear, stopping for traffic light to prevent engine from dying.

Hi everyone!

I am a newbie Planet owner (not even 2 days) and have been experiencing a number of probelms with my bike.

1st Problem: Starter doesn't work

When I first rode the bike after getting it from the seller, it started with no problems the moment I hit the starter button. Went out for a bit and I stalled the bike on an upslope. When I pressed the starter again, the bike refused to start and I had to push start in the end.

I looked over the bike after limping home and noticed the following:

1) Immediately after I stalled, I heard a faint sound when pressing the starter. But that's it i.e. the bike still no go.

2) Now, pressing the starter doesn't even give me a sound. It's as if there is no starter and the button on the handlebar is for show.

Solution(s) attempted:

From this forum, it seems the most common cause of this problem is due to loose connections. I have checked the connections under the seat and it all seems to be tight. I tried looking for the starter motor but have no idea where it is. Some pointers here would be most welcome!

2nd Problem: Battery don't seem to be charging

After my abortive 1st attempt at riding, I took the bike out again at night by push start. Didn't want to make a BF of myself again in public in front of the whole world... :cheeky: Anyways, before I started, all my lights (headlight, signals, indicator lamps etc) seem to be quite strong. I took the bike out for quite a distance so I am quite sure there should have been some charging going on. But when I came back, the lights look dimmer and my signal lights look like they are about to die soon.

Solution(s) attempted:

I checked the rectifier plug and the contacts look clean. I didn't clean them because:

1) they looked clean

2) I have no contact cleaner and have no idea if I can just use something else to substitute for it e.g. alcohol. On a related note, what exactly are contact cleaners? Where can I buy it/them?

I haven't taken the bike out since coming back because I didn't need the exercise of push starting the bike again :p

3rd Problem: 1st gear/Neutral confusion

When I set the bike into neutral (neutral lamp is on) and let go of the clutch, the bike stalls as if it is in 1st gear. After several tries, I determined that it is because the bike was actually in 1st gear but the neutral lamp came on anyway.

Solution(s) attempted:

Pushing the bike forward abit (with the clutch in) would make the neutral lamp go out if the bike is in 1st gear i.e. neutral lamp still on, bike is really in neutral. But I am looking for a more long term solution for this problem.

I am thinking of bringing the biked down to Minerva to have a full look see by them but have heard their prices are incredible. Fellow Planet owners on this forum have recommended Excel so I am trying to decide between the skill of Minerva (supposedly) vs the cost of Excel. Views on this issue are also most welcome.

hi,

i passed my 2b recently. Currently own no bike but have read this thread for some time and downloaded the mito manual. I am no better in terms of knowledge than you... so follow at ur own risk.... :p

Problem 1.

Did you start the bike with the choke turned on? Suppose to help starting better.

Problem 2.

contact cleaners? WD-40 and stuffs like that.

Problem 3.

no idea... maybe clutch plates.... not sure. If you can live with it, then I think u r ok.

I suggest u download the mito manual and read through section C. Try those remedies that are al-cheapo first. If in the end, nothing works, send to the 2 recommended workshops....

I went back to Minerva to get a once over and fortunately for me, Problems 1 & 2 was because of a loose battery connection. I did check the battery wires and I could have sworn they were all hooked up but since the mech said so and the bike is running now...

Problem 3 is a 'bike feature' according to the mech. It is a good idea to clutch in before starting the bike in case the gear dropped to 1st after you parked or because someone's leg itchy. To check if it's really in neutral or not, make sure the neutral lamp is lit, keep the clutch in and roll the bike either forward or backwards a bit. If it's a false neutral, the neutral lamp will go out.

Now have to scrap together $ for the next major servicing (the one that costs about $200+ at Minerva and if suay, over $300+) :giddy: . Can anyone advise on the prices (parts + labour) for the same servicing at Excel?
