iTunes should accept any video "dragged" into the library. If it doesn't, chances are, it doesn't support it.

Going by the legal book, you can download Quicktime (and upgrade to Pro) so that you can use it to convert any suspected incompatible videos into a format that iTunes understands, such as MPEG-4.

There should be freeware MP4 programs on the web. Think you need to google for that; I forgot what useful programs could do that...

Okay, I think you need to do a little investigation yah?

Here's what Apple says about its iPod and its video playing capabilities:

iPod video formats supported:

H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

So basically, its either M4V, MP4, MOV -- the fomer 2 come from the MPEG family; MOV is from Apple.

I've checked Apple Support but it didn't tell me much about what kinds of videos can be dragged into iTunes and then into your iPod. But from experience, I've tried a DVD-sized MPEG and the iPod accepted it.

Oh, and one more thing: Only the 30, 60 and 80GB ones can play video.

If you leave it as Auto-Sync, then it will not sync every single file again. If you tick Sync then untick and apply the change, after that you want to use the Auto Sync again, yes it will override every single thing again.

After this experience with my GF's Ipod, I'm convinced NOT to buy one for myself if I ever wanted a MP3 player....

One more thing is you can't copy from Ipod to the PC.... :sian:

Anyway there are 3rd party softwares to make the Ipod act like a 'normal' MP3 player... but you'll need to pay around US$20 for it.

If you use a Mac then there's Senuti for this purpose. Gotta thank the linux geeks for this one

Ah, and if you're a Winamp freak like me, this plugin has the magic to read/import/export your iPod songs (yes, you can also keep your wallet for this)

ml_iPod plugin for Winamp 2 and 5+

1) Simply drag your video files (of course, use Windows Explorer to reveal them first) to the iTunes Library. It'll appear there.

2) Plug in your iPod and wait. Your iPod will appear to the left side of iTunes.

3) Drag the videos that appeared in Step #1 to your iPod.

You can try finding "Replay Converter". I'm using it and it ain't bad ;)

Just dislike the hassle of converting here and there for the iPod videos and some videos.

Lines ah? Wow....

Try putting your iPod into Disk Mode if your computer can't seem to detect that it's plugged in.

Try this even if the on-screen display looks weird and even if you can't make out what's on the screen..

When done correctly, your iPod should switch itself into Disk Mode in 5 seconds. Then, connect it to your computer as you would if it was working fine.

From there, your iPod should appear on your computer as a removeable disk, and from there, you'll be able to see your songs appear under iTunes.

Or, with a little file-unhide magic, you can see your music files in Windows Explorer

If not, then I'm afraid your iPod has turned itself into a brick.

tried the disk mode thing but didn't get it to work, not sure why

found this freeware - idump and i managed to take out all my 2K plus songs from Ipod but the naming is screwed up cos the software does not recognise chinese character. it will then pop up a box 'bad name' just click ok. english songs are ok.

slowly adding the files back to itune and it recognises the song title/album in mandarin.

hope this helps those who face similar problem like mine. website to download software at http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/iDump-Download-23799.html

can't help but say this again....i hate hate hate hate ipod. it blocks pc from recognising the music files.
