Hi all,

I have this problem on my S4 lately.

Water level always down and have to top-up water like once in every 2 days.

If not can hear boiling sounds. At times water + coolant will gush-out from under the bike when i stop at red-light which i think is caused by over-heating.

Sent to bike shop and they say thermostat spoil so cooling-fan cannot work. Had it changed but still facing the same prob.

Any bro's have any ideas or face with the same prob before......Please save me this headache

Fan works after changing the thermostat....but dun seem to understand y the water and coolant always low. Toppin up water every 2 days don't make any sense to me...

The scary part is the boiling sounds and the gushing of water and coolant...

My daily milage is approx 30+....not too heavy for a S4 i suppose.

i have faced somewhat similiar problem.. went on touring, bike was very hot and smoking from below.. i open up and took a look at the coolant reserve and realised it was boiling went to my workshop and checked then realised the water pump was not working.

few days later, the overheat light lighted up again. i realised that the coolant was leaking, went back to my workshop once again to change a coolant hose that had a hole.

now all the working well..

check for leak first if see water coming out then go have the hose changed.if not there might be another problem, yours radiator is blockage inside cause the system not flowing at the normal rate.Which lead to overheat. My s4 use to be like that. Do a radiator flush first to clear all the dirty content inside & change out the old coolant to a new one.

one more think to take note for coolant need to change every 2 year the most as the boiling pt will dropped if it use too long & adding water is a must not as the boiling pt lesser than the coolant.

u can see the color of the coolant which is very dirty meaning you too long didn't change already.

If not your radiator will spolit after year which will cause you around 400+for a new one.

believe me as i was a victim of this too.

i had the problem the other time. boiling water gushed out also.

brought to shop and found the reserve boiling and after it cooled down, it become totally dried up.

flushed coolant and serviced the plug for the fan. now still fine

Thanks for all your comments.

Can anyone roughly estimate the cost to flush radiator + change complete hose for radiator + new water pump

before you change everything and waste unnecessary $$, bring to your trusted mech to do a check 1st. unless you say you rich, then by all means.

complete set of hose $100+++.

new water pump less than $150.

flush: not sure. need to remember to add in cost of coolant.

Btw thanks to all who provide and shared valuable experience to me....cannot sleep for the past 2 days liow...

Have you tried to change the radiator cap? Any leak in the cap will result in the boiling water to reach the reservoir tank when its hot.

I'll go to the bike shop on Wednesday and share their findings.....hopefully all of us can learn some new findings.
