Hi all, im looking for a 2nd hand bike and my friends told me that the number plate of the bike would tell you the coe expiry date, like example FT plate means it is ending in 2011. Then i came to know that you could actually transfer the number plate from bike to bike. So how do i actually tell how long the bike has been ridden, like the date of registration since the first user and stuff. Pls advice. =/ thanks.

ask the seller to produce the logcard to verify the age of the bike..

I don’t mind as long as no personal details revealed. In fact, it is a LTA tool open to the public. Anyone can key in any number plate they see to check the basic information of the vehicle :)

More important is "how many km the bike has travelled?"

that'll be a good gauge of how many components you'd have to replace due to wear and tear.

okay, thanks, its been helpful. so the number plate actually has nothing to do with the age of the bike like what my friend say. am i right? =/

to a certain extent. if the bike has not changed its number plate throughout its life (as with most bikes), you will still be able to estimate the age with the number plate.

but this is not always true, as per the instances above. so if the number plate is a 'nice' plate or a very old plate on a new model of bike, it's likely that it was not the bike's first number plate.

as for how many km the bike has travelled, this may vary too. some bikes may have damaged odometers which were replaced (or were not replaced, in this case e dist travelled will remain a mystery), others might have been totally rebuilt with new parts recently so despite the high reading on the odometer, the bike may still be in a relatively good condition

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.
