tks thomas... i've got 2 test rides this weekend... will be able to know better after... :)

btw, Simon, you just recently upgraded your ST right? wat do you have now, the st1100y 2001/2 ? what kinda price range for that? or is it the st1300?

seems like a buyer's market now, many switching to cars with the low low car prices, there's more sellers than buyers... there's also quite a few in bike shops too...

You can remove the lock and try your luck with WD40 or, a locksmith along Kitchener Road (opp famous curry rice). One of the rider has done it at 10 bucks.

No guarantee but, no harm trying...

ngleo,

we arrived Pattaya last evening, it's a very fruitful trip experience I can say now. the northern curves & traffic condition/regulation for skirting BKK to Pattaya was marvellous, best of all Pattaya is :thumb:

phliplolc,

I got a new ST1100Y on Aug 03', manufactured in 02'.

car price is very much affordable from this few COE results, riding is alway the passion that's not easy to be given up.

you have to think carefully b4 buying a st1100

as you are riding a sport bike and then change to tourer bike

there are many cons....

my personally points are.

braking power not there (even i use EBC HH) unless you change the disc to half floating or full floating disc.

need to power not there

cornering not there. but still can corner, but not fast as sport bike

can't power wheelie

fuel consumption abt the same as sport bike. (15-16km/litre)

gd points are

can put a lot of things in the box, don need to carry helmet ard

full tank can last at least 350km b4 reserse tank cos 28 litres

don need to spray chain.

i took abt 1 yr to get used to the power of ST.... n i am still sad that i LOST TO A RVF!!!!!!!

:weep:

Posted

i did consider the power thing... i remember once in 98', before i got my RRW, i was thinkin of downgrading from my RRP to a 400 cc something... 30 secs into my test ride i gave it up... couldn't take the low power...

even now, i'll still let it rip once in awhile and its a big rush... :)

but it's not so often with so many damn cars on the road... and i'm so much more conservative.

think i'd rather have the helmet storage, comfort, wind/rain protection, extra mileage...etc... at least the ST is 1100cc, i tried one for the 1st time the other day and power wasn't too bad... not as torquey as a sports of cos but seems good enuff

thanks anyway :)

for me, probably biggest concern is maneuverability in traffic jams, getting stuck together with cars not too good... and harder to squeeze between cars...

recently i discover that after raining, though not as heavy as before, my small compartment under the seat is filled with water. I carry my manual and bike tools there. I have to throw away the manual as a result. it was never like that before. Anyone experience the same problem?

I took awhile before being comfortable on this heavy machine (Maybe much longer that anyone else in this forum). e.g. pushing the bike during parking whether seated or not (drop it a couple of time) and putting it on mainstand especially when the carpark ground is not level.

I recently tried on someone else ST with a Corbin look alike seat that is done in Hatyai. I am 1.7m and the seat is cut slightly lower and it give me more confident when pushing while seated. Maybe I should cut the seat just a little lower.

As for maneuvering in traffic, it is not that bad. Maybe it is because handle bar width is same as rear.

hey guys, i found a police model FV plate going for $14k... mileage less than 30k... is it a better model, worth the extra dollars?

just a reference for you:

There is one member who was offered 05/2003 TP model last year Oct at 17.8k OTR.

I bought my 10/2000 ST1100Y May last year at $13200 and and that is partly because of the number plate. So for me 14k for FV and at such low mileage is worth considering. But in my opinion buying bike is not all bout low mileage, especially tourer.

ask to have a look at the Log-card...

check the Registered Date...

As mentioned ... most Bikeshop taking in FS~FT plate (2000~2001) ST

for about $10k...

I feel if its really FV (should be around 2002) and mileage @ ~30k km

is a good buy ....

let us know the plate if u willing to, maybe the previous owner or friend

is reading and maybe maybe maybe can advise

Leo,

219 charge $25/- for a slight trim on the seat cushion. $50/- for deeper cut with new fabric. Check it out if you wanna do it locally.

Sound like a good buy but also, relatively unbelieveable a FV tourer with 30K mileage.

I guess you need a guru to test ride or help you inspect the condition, especially, the engine. I would luv to help but, I'm also a newbie...

Happy shopping and hope to see your new toy soon...

Yes, they will use back the original fabric. But it may not be great impact if the cut is very light. You may check out the details at the shop, the guy is quite helpful.

Btw, my seat compartment doesn't get wet on raining day. Probably the rear was sheltered by the top box. Or maybe the piece of sponge underneath and at the rear of the seat prevented the water from getting into the compartment. Hope you understand what I meant or, I show you the next time we meet up.

Thanks for the info, I will go the 219 and find out.

I never have top box before and never have this problem until recently and it's quite strange. Will see what you mean regarding the sponge thingy with we meet the next time.

ngleo,

I believe everyone has got the same plm, same for mine right from day 1.

I rectify the plm by covering it with a piece of styrofoam sheet before closing my seat & upside down my tool kit vertically inside, it works to prevent getting wet when raining or bike washing.

anyone got better ideas..?
