OMG :giddy:

what happened?

To summarise, I skidded on AYE and was ran over by a lorry in early Nov. The lorry ran away and as a result, my right thigh bone and left pelvic was broken... Now, I got metals in some places and they will be there permanently .

Since discharged from the hospital, I have been resting at home, bored to almost insanity... Luckily, my bros and sis in PKC visits me, brought me out to movies and chalets from time to time.

RAW means uncompressed format.

wouldnt that file size be very big? jpeg compressed also around 1MB per pic at 1600 x 1200 pixels, if RAW format how big would that be?

so many posts within few days....

1st thing 1st, wishing Lucifer a speedy recovery.

ok, now back to Pauche.

i presume u want a DC for normal photography.

what is best fits into yr budget is 4-5MP range DC, but at the lower side.

mind u, there r additional batt, memory cards, cam bags & other things u need too. probably will set u back by abt few hundreds.

i have no specific model in mind, but what u can do is (like recommended) compare the spec from http://www.dpreview.com.

*hint hint*

what my colleague got is a HP Photosmart R707 (abt $600++).

not bad for a family man who likes to take photos of his kids.

my guess is that u r leaning towards manual control, so best is focus more into capabilities of DC interm of

1. highest ISO the cam can manually set (for dim shooting condition)

2. optical zoom is priority, not digital zoom (the higher the better for opt zoom)

3. white balance control (can manually set, eg Auto, tungsten, daylight....)

4. NO SHUTTER LAG (most dc has this problem, so get one with less lag)

hope the above helps.

1MB is considered small.

i shoot mostly in jpg highest res, occasionally in RAW.

if RAW is the format u want, then u need more ammo (meaning bigger capacity memory card).

jpg high res = betw 2-3 MB per photo

RAW + high res jpg = betw 7-9MB per photo

all my finished photos after editing for my clients (or called final product) is betw 2-3MB for 4R size (min 1800x1200 pix at 300dpi for printing).

yes just wan a DC for normal photography..... beginner level niah....

other than additional memory cards and battery, what else do i need to get?

1. usually consumer DC would be ISO400 rite?

2. optical zoom would usually be around 3x-4x eh?

3. i still dunno how to choose the correct white balance usage!

4. wats shutter lag?

also wat are the advantages of having RAW format when u can have jpeg which is much smaller in size??? in jpeg format also can edit rite?

thanks scud!!!

there r some. but not immediate need till u understand the cam first. Just to quote some example, close up filter, tele/wide angle convertor etc. Not all cams can fix the mentioned items.

0sec shutter lag means when u press the shutter button, a pic will be taken at that moment instantly. 1 sec lag means pic is taken 1 sec after the button is pressed.

RAW is only useful for advance editing without losing pic details. JPEG still allows editing.

wtf .. nvr thanks me? :cheeky: just joking

so how do i know if the camera i buying can fit things like close up filter etc?

consumer cameras usually cant rite?

as for shutter lag, these days camera still have the lag??? and how to check if it lags or not?

ok ok thank u..... :D

models, and lots of pretty models. hunks can too :cheeky:

not to worry abt RAW format as DC only has jpg. some DC has RAW, but not all.

btw, it is not easy to deal with RAW if you are not familiar.

besides, u need to have a good PC to run photoshop application.

well, what good abt RAW is it is uncompressed, which also translate into no loss in details. another word to summerize is RAW offers flexibility for photographer to do post process.

1. usually consumer DC would be ISO400 rite?

2. optical zoom would usually be around 3x-4x eh?

3. i still dunno how to choose the correct white balance (WB) usage!

4. wats shutter lag?

u got 1 & 2 correct.

WB = read the manual after u bot the dc.

shutter lag = layman term is a slow response time after pressing shutter release to the time a shutter opens.

for comparison, dslr has no significant shutter lag, almost immediate.

dc has a lag of abt 0.5s. the lag can cause the pic to be blur (due to movement of the subject) and missing some of the action photography (eg u cant take a car/motobike race with a laggy shutter)
