Exhaus-tion,

i may be wrong, but from the pixs that you posted, i can summarized that u take photos for leisure, or during short trips.

in this case, i would recommend canon A80 (like wat sunnyday suggested), but also look beyond canon brand, eg nikon, minolta, fuji, olympus.

pros and cons consumer cam as below:

A. storage / memory card

1. olympus n fuji use xD card, which i think is the most expensive per MB.

2. CF is the cheapest, can get 512MB Kingston at $99.

3. sd is also cheap, but i believe cf is better for $/MB.

B. 4 or 5MP?

1. dont bother to look at

2. anything above 4 is good enough for you to print up to 8R.

C. Features?

1. get one with manual setting, eg Auto, Program, Tv, Av, Manual, Sports, Lanscape, etc.

2. what is the optical zoom (read optical zoom, not digital zoom)? the bigger the better.

3. batteries type? AA is easily available worldwide.

Lastly, what is your budget.

My advise, understand what you like to shoot, what is your style (landscape, sports etc) and work within your budget.

allocate some $$ for accessories (eg pouch, rechargable batt, filters, memory cards). best is ask if these are included or given as free gift in your purchase.

hmm.,.... that what i can think of. hope it helps..

anyway, y do u guys like photography?

i was playing with my dad's minolta FM cam, X-GM after school. that was in mid-80s. dunno how to use it, so started by reading the manual. guess what, got hooked immediately.

all the way till now, from SLR to DSLR. no turning back since..... guess that it's a black hole!!!

if you are into underwater photography, then u/w casing is compulsory, which i think is veri ex like what sunnyday mentioned.

another thing is that electronics gadgets and water are NOT FRIENDS, so take proper precaution. if you need u/w casing just to shoot in the rain, think again, you may find it a white elephant later.

i don't thk 300D will drop much cos 10D will be the one which is affected most. 300D and 20D belongs to different consumer group. that's wat i thk only

kind of related bah..if 10D prices drop beri badly..pple would rather buy a 2nd hand 10D as compared to a 2nd hand 300D..so 300D's 2nd hand price oso have to drop to make it sellable :cheeky:

300D is EFS mount, 20D is also EFS mount which mean they have more lenses to choose from (EF-S 10-22mm F3.5-4.5 USM, EF-S17-85 IS U and not to mention EF-S18-55).

10D is EF mount, therefore the above EF-S lenses are not compatible.

based on this, i think 300D price may not be significantly affected, badly hit will be 10D.

I heard that EFS lenses can be modified to fit on EF body? am i right?

20D is still 1.6 FOV huh?

yup, it can be done, but run a risk of mirror hitting the back protuding glass of the lens.

i almost at the verge to mod the lens, that time was deciding to buy at $105.

at last, after discussion with CS friends, they say not worth the try, save the hassle lor.

yes, 20D is still having 1.6 FLM (focal length multiplication).

i guess FOV means Field of View (which i dont think it is 100% for 20D) - FOV is the view of what you see thru the viewfinder vs the actual pic u take.

imo, the FLM does actually helps, esp where it multiplies the focal length of the lenses that we use.

setback is only when we want to have ultra wide angle shoots,

example if want to get 19mm effective, then need to use 12mm x 1.6=19.2mm

ultra wide angle is good to have if shooting with film, and useful if use with dslr.

most of my night scene pics are in HDD, some can be found in this link.

will try to upload to web, no promise thou.

cmos vs ccd.... this been in debate for quite sometime.

honestly, ccd is better as it consume less batt, thus u get a longer run on 1 charge.

cmos needs to charge up before can be used, that explained why startup time for D70 is faster.

Was on my way back from NUS and saw the full moon.

Reached home, packed my gears and took a picture of full moon.

my setup was with tripod, at 300mm. shoot raw, then do some post processing eg sharpen, brightness etc.

had some pix which are not sharp as i did not use cable release, coupled with the zoom at 300mm.
