Hi, tried reading up a bit on the differences between these 2 engines but still confused. What's their main differences and what's the pros and cons for each engine?

Am intending to get an old civic and redo up the engine in M'sia with a trusted mech, anyone else think its a bad idea??

I did read that thread but still not able to understand. Sorry, not very sure in car engine cos never had one, always been riding vespa so there's a lot of technical stuff that's really different, and really can't find any proper comparison on google. Ask friends also they don't know, that's why come here last resort. Would appreciate if can give proper info, thanks!

i noob leh tony san... if ask me which one better i will only say "get a car big enuff to piak inside"

To TS:

these type of car very hard to say wat engine is inside, on article can claim is a LSI, ESI, VTI blah blah... open inside wait everything different.

Alot of thing to consider in first place... dollars, condition, depression, cash for upkeeping, insurance etc..

if buying a 60k ~ 70k mileage stock car to me is like a time bomb, if i buy it at 30k i will need to standby 5k cash just to Mantain & REMAIN it in stock condition, not even close for a young boy dream for the car to be loud & beng condition.

of coz civics is not a new toy just put out of market, loads of parts are avaliable at low price now, but is up to personal preference whether the amount of time & $ wasted on the car is it worth anot..

My gauge to car condition for pre-own car is nv

-Number of ownership

-mileage

-Number plate

-fancy bodykits & shiny paints

-ALWAYS PARK in SHADE

-Ex owner is a doctor, lawyer, lady??

Thanks man, actually the reason i'm thinking of getting is not to get attention or what la, just that last time schooling in the 90s told myself i wanna get this hb car cos it looks damn good even stock. Now working so got bit more money thinking of getting my dream car, 2nd choice, first is 70s celica but now hard to find, so yea, wish to at least own one to fulfill childhood dream... And at least it still looks like car, now most cars look like spaceships.... not sexy to me...

hehe ya i understand wat u mean dude.. is like a addict to syt ytd to a milf to ur liking now =x

dreaming is good lah, at least got a goal to forward to.. but reality is cruel, especially the celica parts getting harder to find. first car can start off with something cheaper, slower, lesser pimps etc for owners paying out from the pocket.. After few years then decide whether going for muscle cars or economic road..

a civic dohc of the 90's in stock trim is already by itself a little monster. Not any 1.6L now can touch the car. can even give current 2.0L a fight for the money.

If u can try to get esi or even better dohc vti or sir. Malaysia a plenty of shops lah, dun worry. But be warned, "market" now not very good if u have "snails" crawling inside a civic :)

VTI and SIR not much left coz that time 1995-1999 COE high, paper value high. most dereg and did not renew COE. whereas ESI and LSI from '91 - 94.(COE plunged in 2001 and most renew COE another 10yrs for $18,444)

in bikers term.....ESI is like CBR fireblade. LSI like CBR hurricane.

Or another layman term....ESI is efi while LSI is carbreutor.

both on same construction/chassis but diff engine technology.

in this case, ESI 1.6 has vtec and LSI 1.5 without.

i drove VTI,ESI and LSI before.

VTI no problem coz that time bought almost new.

my ESI engine oil and radiator tends to leak. overheat easily.

my LSI aircon not cold...

buying such cars is like getting married in match-making agencies.....hahahaaa....

good luck in your search.btw, i'm letting go my LSI. check out my post :)
