Hi,

imho, don't pay the full price straightaway. ask for the lowest deposit that they need and then pay that. pay the balance when you go collect the bike.

saves you a lot of trouble cause now it's the shop wanting to collect money from you and not you wanting to collect bike from them. speeds up the process somewhat.

(also, fyi 7k is not a large amount as far as shop is concerned)

good luck with your bike hunting

Help the newbie, list the items to ask for in the quoted price:

machine price;

COE;

GST;

admin fee;

transfer fee;

import fee (if not already included in machine price);

road tax;

insurance;

IU unit (include installation? some bikeshop will chop you extra for designer bracket!!! pui!);

etc....

Usually bikeshops that absorb COE are those who parallel import their own bikes, esp popular bikes like S4, kups etc. Becos they already markup on machine price. Smaller bikeshops who dont import lose out on this. But nowadays smaller bikeshops cant survive, its all the importers game now.

Once you got a few quotes(just 2 is not enough to base your willing price), you would already have a rough guide the market price of that bike on the market and decide which shop is more competitive, then you bring out your money and go buy. Be it fixed price or complete breakdown, fact of the matter is how much all-in you willing to pay.

Thanks for sharing! Appreciate it from the heart of noob.

Thanks,.. I thought so actually.

The reason I carried that sum is because "someone" asked for full payment.. silly me, ah?

Also beware if the seller is desperate to close fast. If they are in need of cash, it could also show that they might not have the cash to maintain the bike properly.

Yeah if it comes to this, and you know that the seller desperate to offload.... kar kar slash price ah!! up to 50%!!! If not then walk away... nothing to loose.

Not sure what he rides.

to be honest, I don't want to discredit the person, I'm just disappointed with the business. His overall price is actually still low, perhaps considering no freebies etc - my point is if he quoted that price from beginning I would still take it from him, cos my friend has good experience with him and recommended me to visit him. It just wasn't my day and money is sensitive issue for me. Face the fact, I'm not rich.

yes i know that type of feeling.. but still for their reputation and to cover for your own safety purposes.. u shld advise ppl to BE CAREFUL not AVOID... im sure u wont wan any lawsuits against you right.. yes $7000 or $70 is still money.. to me.. even 70 bucks also i heart pain to spend.. must think carefully.. so forget it la bro.. still gt alot of choices out there.. maybe can save longer and buy better bikes? chill!!!

i agree with Ah Bear.

Bikes are aplenty on the road. If you cannot find one today, just start browsing and I am sure you will find it.

I have dealt with car dealers in the past, they also apply similar tactics to lure prospects to their showroom. I remember my first car purchase back in 1993, I had to pay $200+ in "coffee money". They called it "football money". Till today I have no idea what it was.

lol.. maybe its what they call it tthose days but now its call "GST" or "service-charge" maybe? haha:smile:

"Football Money" = Admin Fee for processing the paperworks to get u the legal paperwork/loans/transfer/owner docs etc for OTR.

* I paid for my 1st car because LL new mah and like the car. All my subsequent rides i dun pay admin fee no more. The dealer dun agree? I just walk away lor. :D

this happened quite some time back, when we suddenly see forumers posting apologies statement. after all, the forum don't put this disclaimer for fun:

Note : Members are warned against posting accusating contents.

All conflicts & displeasure with any shops should be feedback to the shop or reported to the relevant authorities.

All accusating contents that are potential defamation elements will be removed.

If you are a serious buyer, go down and talk face to face. Not on the phone.

i agree this... face to face talk better...

TS, a COE cap is very common in singapore not just for bikes, but also for cars. of course, each shop has a different cap amount. It isn't a trick, its just the way the market works here given the need to bid for a new COE.

In any case, now that you know, be sure to ask when you call so you won't get the wrong expectation.

Finally, lowest purchase price doesn't mean its the best shop to deal with. Exercise Caveat Emptor when buying from any shop in any country.

All the best.

fwa, cheam for a while.

"a commercial principle that without a warranty the buyer takes upon himself the risk of quality." - define:caveat emptor Google.

:lol: i did the exact same thing and realise ur post.

Sovereign, I can understand your sentiments.

People are bound to twist and turn facts in their favour.

How I would overcome this would be to get the price details written in a notepad from other shops as well(as a guide not solely for reference) and also note the name of the sales guy who want to break the deal.

If you do this, they will not mess with you!

$7000 is a lot of money. Do not care about what people say because it is YOUR money.

All the best thread starter in your deal.

bro, ur frustation is understandable....but listen and at least consider what others are telling u...

maybe quotation over the phone is u're style, but it might not be the best "style" in these matter. Like u said earlier, u went to the first shop even if he quote higher because of friends recommendation and u thought it's reliable...this shows after sales service is important to u...

What best way to decide after sales service than to discuss face to face??? And most bikeshop are located in a cluster, going from one to the other might be just a door away....

Happy hunting....
