yes this one is an April fool.

Hen hen managed to con some ppl, until Stanco spill the bean and spoiltsport it for me :GRRRR. Need to think of something better for next year, that can even con Stanco

Anyway if Uncle Sam really wanted, all they need is some device that can measure the doppler shift of your motorbike, be it the IU radio transmitetr or the tone of your engine.

The faster you go the bigger the shift, and the more noise your bike make even more earier for them.

uhm....isn't that how the current generation of radar guns work? (or are ours all laser ones now? can ask your source? muaharharhar) measure teh blueshifted reflection as vehs head towards them.

maybe next time see fella on OH bridge, park nearby, then go up and ask the fella how it works.

IU, possible, but that would mean all IUs would have to be transmitting continuously with enough output. Though other moving vehicles could interfere with the signal depending on receiver location. If it's to be a fixed pos, then, same as the current speed cams mah? Although the IU unit method may give better results, it being locked to a particular veh's registration.

engine tone, uhm, unless they can specifically identify a signature freq. else, engine rpms change all over, how to change?

just my 2cents, do correct me if wrong.

think, most realistic would be the proposed GPS ERP system. The one currently under study, where they can implement "virtual" gantries, instead of spending money and disrupting traffic to set up gantries. That one, possible to track vehicular speeds and such. since it's distance-based.

and your erp gantry scenario isn't that far-fetched either. would only work between gantries and if the fella speeds consistently. if only not for the name of the system.

There are many Electronic signboards, before entrance in expressway, telling us how long it reach Punggol 15mins, (e.g) etc

The time is quite accurate for drivers, but not for so bikers as we beat the jam by riding in-between lanes.

How do the system know? Make a guess.

The technology has been there for many years already.

if you're talking about the travel time display TTD, most likely it's cuz our friendly cabbies are giving us a hand. :D

since long time ago when they carried GPS units, they were used as probes. scan data every few mins, then calculate the speeds. scan enough units, you get an averaged time. this info can also be see on lta's interactive map. shows real time display of road speeds in coloured bars.

technically speaking, it would probably be possible to poll the systems more frequently to see if the drivers are speeding. :cheeky:

Well this ERP gantry technology comes from Australia anyway. In Australia, they use this to track a vehicle from one point to another. If they arrive too soon, a speeding ticket will arrive in their mailbox. One form to curb vehicle from speeding. Not to mention if the vehicle have safely arrived form one town to another, as you know their desert can be super long.

Anyway, if there is such thing, they won't be dumb enough. The current technology in place will be able to trace easily. 3 form of technology, Speed Camera, Infrared and RFID.

Here, they use to make money.
