Here's the situation.

1. Key is broken in the ignition.

2. Looked into the keyhole with a torch and observe it's all the way in. No way I can use a needle etc. to remove it. Need a pro to do it.

3. The good news is I have removed the ignition switch so I can take it anywhere. I also have a spare key. So basically the locksmith just needs to remove the broken key.

4. What's the market price for a job like this?

Thanks!

err. put glue on ur other piece on stick it to the old key.. once dry, just pull? I think this is quite a DIY solvable problem. I think. May be wrong. But i think it is. A locksmith might cost a bomb. Maybe tow to a bike show and get them to work on it?

I broke my super 4's key in JB. Pushed the bike all the way to my regular shop. He took the ignition out like you did, then took a small part out and managed to fish the broken part out. It was a 5 min job. He didn't charged me for that.

Try going to your local shop before going down to the locksmith..

Thanks for your suggestion (and the suggestion above to use glue).

I visited the key duplication guy next to AH Boy, who didn't even bother to think about the problem and said he couldn't do it.

He did refer me to another locksmith down the road, next to Regina.

I went there, told the guy my problem, and he too didn't think about it, but said it'll cost $20 to fix it, including a duplicate of a key (I provided him with my spare key). I think to him, it's a common problem.

I believe this is a simple job. But it's a matter or skill and having the right tools. I guess I too could figure out how to do it, but I don't have the special tools to dig the broken bit out. Only a locksmith has. Even my smallest screw driver is too big, and wire is too flexible.

Don't mind paying $20 for this. Save me the sweat and time.

I just hope it's really $20. Am picking it up tomorrow! Will update again.

I had a similar experience with an old Givi box.

I guess bike keys are not high security keys!

haha, how do u sleep at night knowing your bike might not be there when u wake up tmrw?

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.
