juz nw on my way back from jb in the rain, something funny happened.

crossed customs, SLE then ard AMK ave 1 exit that time. the idling of the bike suddenly increased.

felt like the choke was on.

BUT

the choke was NOT.

when i clutch in, the RPM remained at 3k, when i should be zero.

however, when i let the bike roll on its own, the RPM would drop to 2k.

thus, it proves that its not the idling screw on the carbie.

i thot tat its something to do with the choke cable.

any of u guys here can help ?

Seems like your clutch is still engaging when you cluch in. Try oiling the clutch cable and adjust the freeplay properly.

It could be that your choke is stuck. Because mine is.

When I apply choke, the bugger won't close even if I pushed the lever. So my engine revs high at idle until I figured out what was wrong.

Check the choke slider on the left hand side of the carb isn't pulled out (you can manually push it in to close it). If it is closed and the problem still persists, then you can safely rule out a malfunctioning choke as your problem!

Haha! This will only happen in GSXR400..I got this before...it is the housing on your left foot rest there becomes lose....GSXR clutch is fixed onto the plastic housing..the nuts loosen liao and come off...tighten it back will be okay!! If not as what I mentioned...then I dunno liaoz..

Hi,

I sometimes have this problem too.

The rpm suddenly become very high at 3 to 4k when i clutch in or change to neutral gear. Oni solve it by lower the idling again. Although it's oni sometimes but it's quite irritating.

Anybody have a solution to this problem? :?

Suzuki bikes r more suitable for hot weather cos if u noticed the temp indication... its very hard to go up even at low speed or traffic jams. :D :D Im not sure y lah.. & dats y its very difficult to start up ur suzuki bike sometimes in the morning or during cold or raining weather. As for honda bikes.. if u encountered any jams or slow moving traffic ah.. im sure ur bike temp will suddenly shoot up rite & ur fan will cum on spinning liao to cool down ur engine?

May be time to clean the carb.

Maybe your carb bowl is too full.

Also maybe main jet needle stuck and did not return to sit in the valve.

[Edit]: could also be the throttle return cable is sometimes stuck. Some cable lube will help.

to keep this 4 yrs old thread going.

my normal idling is 1k, after a day's ride, the riding will fluctuate slightly at 1.1k however when i switch off headlight, idling will increase to 1.4 1.5k

what might be the symptom? time for carb servicing?
