Need advise from anyone out there. Maybe some of u have done this before

Or encounter this before….pls advise.

What happened here is my uncle going to pass me a bike.

The insurance and rd tax both will end next year end of March.

Can I just transfer the bike under my name

and place myself as 2nd rider under his insurance…. ?

Till next year, then I do the insurance under my name. (save $)

Will be there be any complication in term of insurance thing?

I think there will no issues but then just want to clarify just incase.

Correct me if i'm wrong... The registered owner of the bike has to be the 1st rider. Since your uncle is the main rider on the insurance, hence the bike owner has to be him. Wait till next year when the insurance gonna expire, do a brand new insurance policy under your name and you can then do a transfer ownership to yourself.

Why not add urself as sub rider & wait till insurance due to transfer name & re-new insurance?

Bro, good question. The reason to transfer the bike to my name because

i want any summon or fine come to me not to him. It wouldn't be nice

if any fine or summon letter goes to him when i took the bike. U wouldn't

know one day u sekali kena summon from behind and This summon thing from behind happend before u know what i mean.

I couldnt agree more. When you said that, it was the first thing on my mind.

All i need to do now is to find an uncle who will give me his Super4. Hmm... :cheeky:

if a sub rider beat red light and never tell the owner, the letter will come to the first owner so it means he/she will kena the summon n points not the sub rider?

by default, the owner (as registered with the LTA), will be taken to be the offender.

(the sub-rider's details are not registered with the LTA, only with the insurance coy. however i'm sure if LTA wanted to check on it, they could)

back to main point. however, he will be sent a letter requesting for the driver's/rider's particulars, if any. that's when the sub-rider must go and say he (sub-rider) did it.

if a sub-rider wanna play punk, then i think the owner suay lor.

Well, if ownership transfer is to happen now. The uncle will have to cancel his policy and takes back about 80% of whats left of the un-used insurance. Which means, he is going to lugi.

And if the uncle adds you now as a 2nd rider, while he is still a owner and 1st rider, you probably should consider coughing up the differences the policy is going to be charge because of your ages differences.

Like Quincy says: Just add yourself as a sub rider first. Wait till the policy expires in March next year, and then do the transfer, inspection, roadtax, new insurances which you can add in any subrider other then your uncle. And dont get summon. Or even if you do get a summon riding the bike. Be nice to the uncle, have your own points deducted and you pay off the summons. Or if you truly arent sure about you attracting summons. Dont ride till you own that bike yourself.
