Actually, maturity is relative.

Much like intelligence.

Who's to define which is more or less?

But whos to say, that even without NS, TS is earning big bucks and maturing?

There are those, that even during the NS, they upgraded themselves despite the busy NS schedule, instead of waiting for money/education come from gahment.

Aiyoh, don't quote me selectively like that leh... sounds like I was saying guys never mature. What I meant was that many of the guys commenting in this thread seem like they want to convince people that they don't mature.

Why I make that remark? Because imho, although I agree that NS is not something people love, but whether or not someone makes it a useful experience to learn from and grow is based on that person. Not the NS. Although I have to say that if the unit was good the experience would be even better. So if one doesn't grow and learns nothing... :p

There is definitely something to be learnt everywhere, just that whether it is positive or negative

I agree with you, last time round during NS always think of a way to get out of something... but instead of avoiding it, why not face it and challenge it. Beside each and everyone around you going through the same problem.

After which I slowly see that I'm capable of doing something which I don't expect in the past. Working with all sort of pple with different back ground.

For sure NS is a stage which might not nurture mature guys, some still remain as it is. Yes, all of us get to learn and experience something.

Maybe there is a misconception about maturity and discipline regards to NS.

Eg. You are generally much more neater and disciplined about tidying up your stuff and keeping your things neat and tidy. After NS perhaps? Thats the result of discipline (or the fact that you dont live in your house where your maids and mother tidy for you. You lose your things, you will suffer for it, so you learnt from expereinces). And maybe some better planning skills and organising skills? Plan your weekend, your route, your food and timing and so on. How to siam who and what kinda thingy? Get what and how to kinda training?

But we misconstrue that only mature people are neater, better prepared, tidy and neat? Instead of the slob and whiner we see?

But tidiness, and all those traits we think are mature behaviour, are some kinda Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

BMTC is now a place to wayang only. Gone were the days of tough training... There are even plans to cut down the graduation route march from 24km down to 16km.

I was a BMT instructor during my army days and i can tell u, recruits these days are like tofu compared to ppl of the past... Haha.

I didn't know that schools in Singapore had stuff that you can study that is related to commandos. You'd have to consider the progression in the vocation if you sign on for it. True if it's a great passion, its good but commando is a pure combat vocation, shelf life is shorter than other vocations.

There are only two vocations that has their personnels ride bikes. MPs and Recce troopers. MPs ride on VFR800s and recce troopers on a 125cc yamaha dirtbike. I am guessing the MPs get to ORD with cl2..

there's one more. signallers! :D some of my guys ferry signal sets around on the bike recce troppers use.

The rebros.

During my time, the Yamaha wasn't 125cc. Has it been changed?

As one gets older and goes through various experiences, one usually becomes more mature. So generally speaking, I do agree with the statement.
