i used to do that until hospital call my mother and tell her i got accident...

ouch! hope u are fine now.. better to tell parents even if they object.. its really shocking when a mother suddenly received news that son/daughter got in an accident. I've seen that mother's pain before.

My parents disagree of me riding and so I told my parents one thing: "I really like riding so, do you want me to do it behind your back and give you a bomb when I get into a serious accident OR would you rather be mentally prepared, already?".

Then, my dad says: "Show me the bike you wanna get."

That's somewhat similar to what I told my mum. I told her that many people learn to ride in secret and own a bike in secret, but I don't want to do that. She doesn't like it for sure but she's not hopping all over me about it. When I mentioned that wearing school's helmets is a form of self abuse (ok I might have exaggerated a little), she can actually say "Well, those learning in secret have no choice right?"

Started to love motorbikes when i was a very small kid. I used to stay with my aunt in whampoa in the early 90s, and i rmb as a kid i used to gaze at Mah motor showrooms through the living room window, lol.

2003 - began to conceive the thoughts of getting my own licence/bike

2004 - father was neutral (cos he used to ride too), mother scolded me upside down

2005 - reached legal age to enrol 2B, but gave up at 3rd lesson cos mom disrupted my funding

2009 - started taking up 2B lessons again albeit with objections

feb 2010 - got my licence, mom tells me DON'T buy motorbike

mar 2010 - bought motorbike, mom tells me don't ride too fast

After that starting when i pillion my mom at 70kmh she grab me and say don't go so fast... Now i pillion her at 90+ kmh she quiet quiet already.

Moral of the story - Don't hide from ur parents, if anything happen to u they will be very shocked. It is not a responsible way to handle things. Instead, use time to influence and convince them, and SHOW them that u are riding safe.

People always say, car is metal cover flesh, bike is flesh cover metal. True, but i believe with wearing proper gears and adopting safe riding habits, u already reduce a great amount of risk. If something not within ur control is going to happen, it is fate. Most important is that u do not take unnecessary risks. Why do i say so? Bcos even waiting for bus in a bus stop also can die (eunos SBS bus incident), pedastrian walking on pedastrian pavement also can be knocked down by car, eat fishball also can choke and die, sleep also can don't wake up.

initially i decided to buy my own bike through my part-time job and personal savings. then, out of respect for my parents, I told them I gonna ride but in the end they disagree. the normal reason was bike has 2 wheels. now after months of passing my TP have never ridden or got myself a bike. I was afraid I hardly know what to actually do on the open road. Sometimes I just revise through the textbooks when I first enrol, the red, green ones. If I were to buy a bike when the time comes, Ill use it for short distance for a few months. else, longer distance Ill just take public transport...

I bought a bike without telling my parents, brought it home and THEN started to explain the situation.....hehe....its easier to seek forgiveness than to ask for permission. They eventually just told me to ride safe.

ya, but they dont object me to riding now because i wouold scringe and save at that time to buy a bike... think they know that their kids are not young anymore, so they encouraged me by buying me some gloves and a nice helmet...
