Hi all, I'm planning a trip up Genting via Ulu Yam on the 9th and 10th Oct. Won't be watching MotoGP but just going for a fun ride up some nice roads ;)

May also go exploring some other new roads on the way down.

If anyone's interested to join, just drop me a PM or SMS at 96394711.

Cheers and ride safe!

Yeah, from Genting down to Sepang is quite a distance especially if you'll be going up and down everyday... Anyway the programme might be something like this:

9th morning depart from GP Esso

Stopover in Kluang for breakfast (beef noodles?)

Stopover in Melaka for cendol :p

Reach KL for light lunch (will go for Klang Bak Kut Teh as recommended by a friend)

Proceed to Ulu Yam passing by Batu Caves

Look for Ulu Yam Lor mee

Go up to Genting via one of the nicer roads in Msia :)

OTOT after that

10th morning leave Genting for Frasers Hill via Karak Highway and Route 8 to Raub

Depending on timing, have teabreak in Raub before heading to Frasers Hill via route 55 (? Can't remember exactly what number)

Late lunch at Fraser's

Proceed down after lunch to Kuala Kubu Bahru

Aim to have dinner in Melaka

Proceed back to S'pore via 2nd Link :)

HaiR1, no cl2, just a s4. :)

all are welcome, just have to book your own accommodation. or, if you'd like me to book for you, must let me know by this evening preferably. not sure if can get cheap rooms this close to the departure date.

round trip about 1000km. speed on nsh = 1x0kmh  but from kl to genting to frasers will be 90% small road.

a little bit of experience with long journeys would be nice, especially for the ride back. however will have adequate stops, so should not be too taxing.

do feel free to drop me a sms if you're interested. number in first post.

I'm sure enjoyed your trip. So please share your experience with us.

By the way, did you encounter the super major accident at ayer keroh? It looks horrible.

2 coach bus, 2 cars. 1 car smashed under an upside down coach bus and the roof of the coach bus is gone. Another car smashed into another coach bus that got toppled to the grass side. Unconscious and injured people were everywhere.

Yeah, sorry I couldn't meet up with you as I decided to detour. Ended up adding 500km to my lousy estimate... Went past the accident at about 2200hrs, was stuck in it for a good 30 mins. Not fun, after coming down from Cameron in the dark. There was also another accident further up, involving some bikes. Couldn't really see what happened though. Bloody tired now, was on the road since 10am. Don't know how I'm going to wake up for work. :p

This trip started out originally as a simple Genting/Fraser's Hill trip...

Hope it's not too boring to read... just some ramblings here.

We decided that since there was basically nothing to do at Genting, that the trip up would be a relax one... aim to reach the hotel at 6pm or so.

Most of the pictures were taken by [Aerosmith] who came along... I don't have that many pictures.

Photos are here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2087499&id=1116364210&l=2931231efb

Sorry it's a bit wordy... here we go!

All times are approximate... didn't really take note of exact timing.

0800 - move off from GP Esso

0845 - reach Kluang for breakfast - beef noodles! :)

1030 - Reach Melaka via Jasin exit (because the NSH was getting boring) - have a refreshing cendol and some light Nyonya snacks :p

1200 - Rejoin NSH towards KL/Klang

1400 - After some effort, arrive at Klang Bak Kut Teh. Went to "Weng Heong" if I remember correctly. Not bad, the bak kut was super big!

1530 - Leave for Ulu Yam via Batu Caves

1615 - Horlanded around Batu Caves... went through what seemed to be ideal territory for scramblers instead (not where you want to bring a s4!) :sian: eventually joined up the road to Ulu Yam.

However, just along the best bit, it decided to rain! Funnily enough, rain stopped just before we reached the town itself.

Perhaps it was a sign from up there, telling us not to play... cuz someone passed away due to an accident just a few days back. Just as well then...

1715 - Reach Restoran Swee Yen (after a bit more horlaning due to missing a turn) for Ulu Yam lor mee. It's quite different from what we get here in SG... the noodles are the same, but the soup reminds me more of hor fun... Nevermind, the important thing it trying it. :)

Proceeded up the last stretch of (excellent) road to Genting. :) Didn't see any of the fully suited up racers that usually frequent the stretch... perhaps it was late, or maybe they're all at Sepang.

The last 1km or so... was so foggy you couldn't even see 10m ahead. Had to go at super slow speed since the corners (and cars) would come from nowhere.

Finally reached FWH at 1845 hrs.

10 Oct

1000hrs - Leave Genting for Fraser's Hill via the "usual" way to Karak Highway and Route 8 to Raub. Those of you who have been through Karak.. you know

On the way down, saw some local bikers on their mouth-watering machines and in their full race leathers. Note to self: Don't try to follow them... they probably go there every weekend.

Route 8 is just like Route 3 to Mersing... straight(-ish) and bumpy. :puke:

Reached Raub at maybe 1200hrs, for one of the better chicken curries I've had in recent times. :)

Left for Fraser's Hill via Route 55 from Raub. Cleaned the sides of both tyres on the way up and down... hehe. But this time wasn't feeling so brave, only managed to scrape toe once. LOL!

Went past a group of (again, fully suited up!) kup kia riders who were on the way down... don't try to follow them either! Rossi probably has nothing on them. Fearless is the word here.

Thankfully, not much traffic on the way down to Kuala Kubu Bahru, so was able to enjoy the (more bumpy than the last time I was there) trip down :)

I think when we reached KKB, it was "only" 3pm... not here not there. Therefore... the thought of "why not, since already went up and down 2 hill resorts, finish the last one?" came about. Route 1 to the NSH it is then!

Exit at Tapah for CH. The way up was absolutely terrifying, because there were a TON of buses coming down. Buses who couldn't keep to their lanes most of the time! Had quite a few close calls... damnit.

Also, had to stop at a rest station halfway up... all those left/right/left/right turns since Genting... :giddy:

After having a rest in the cool air, proceeded to Brinchang for dinner. Reached at about 1730hrs.

This is the "what was I thinking" part... why not go down via Simpang Pulai? The only really big "Cameron Highlands" sign is there anyway :)

Nearly regretted the decision, as the light was fading really fast. The last thing you want to be doing is seeing a corner out of nowhere, going too fast, with no idea how sharp it is. Ended up following cars most of the way down as I already felt the concentration fading.

After 2 hours (which felt like FOREVER!) in the dark, reached Simpang Pulai. I had never been so happy to see the NSH before, normally find it very boring. But, after 12 hours on the move, of which about 200km(?) were mountain roads, I was happy to just be on the way home. :p

The rest, simply straight down on the NSH.

Got stuck in the jam caused by the (horrible!) accident though... it seemed neverending! Not fun to be squeezing between cars after spending the whole day on the road.

Reached GP Esso at 0200hrs, home at 0230.

Then realized... just went down all 3 without retracing the route up (except for Genting, no choice)... Luckily that we decided to go down CH via Simpang Pulai then! :)
