Between 1 Nov to 12 Nov (cant remember the exact dates) i went to Heng Motor at Toh Guan, Leong Seng @ Alexander and MAh motor before placing my order at CKA for S3. Heng motor quoted me 8k, Mah and Leong Seng quoted me around 7.4k. I agree that there shoudnt be much variation on the price. Even the increase in coe does not justify the 1k difference and moreover most shops have leftover coe from past months. So far i asked twice at Leong seng motor and the price is always ard 7.4 to 7.5k, i suggest you ask them. Gd luck

ok thanks, btw can u post e address n phone no for leong seng motor so i can check with them. How's ur S3 doing? will like to hear more beside e slow pickup. Can e underseat storage fit a full face helmet? Thanks n regards bro.

not worth buying this scooter...

Ya. How abt some elaboration from you. I note that you are riding a PGO. I nearly bought x-hot 150. PGO is a very good brand. Low maintenance yet performance is comparable to runner. How abt telling more abt your ride. Very fast and low FC rite??

Hi Shorty, yup I agree. I'm just sharing with you guys the breakdown, that the price (which many claimed costly) is not a rip off.

Kchiong, care to share why you chose S3 over GTS200 when the latter is cheaper? Is GTS200 172cc sohc still?

Actually i never consider gts 200 as i dun like the headlights. I would describe using 2 words "elegant" and "technology" If you have the time, take a look and scrutinise the rim, the parts, headlights, exhaust etc of sym evo 200 or even gts 200 (one of my shortlisted bike), really not to my liking if i compare to s3. I have a soft spot for beauty and just take it that i'm paying 1.1k more for the exhaust, built-in hazard lights, led headlights, keyless techology, dohc, rim etc. Most important, if i like the outlook of the bike, other criteria are secondary. The service at CKA and its background also play a part n my decision making. So what if it cannot hit 140km/hr? in my 10 years of riding, i seldom pass 110km/hr although my DNA 180 is capable of 125km/hr. So what if it has slow pickup? I nearly got into a accident last time when the traffic turned green immediately, i applied full throttle and nearly got hit by a car beating red light. So what if it's expensive. I rode my previous bike for 9.5 years, more than enough for me to break even. The next thing to look out after buying this bike is to see whether this bike is problematic, the availabilty of parts etc. I bet that CKA wont allow these to happen as their livelihood depends on daelim.

Well, 1st service completed and the bike is really much looser. The difference a decent flush of good oil does is always quite a surprise.

The service from CKA is as always faultless, and the people with Daelims are some of the most sociable people I've met, and just short of an hour seemed like 10 minutes due to some great conversations about the pro's and cons of riding in Singapore.

Anyway, as to the bike....

I still think the gear box has a lot to answer for with regards to the kind of revs you expect at certain speeds and accelerating, that said; the pick up has been much smoother and if you were driving a car you'd say it had good mid range delivery (not punch), and a wide power band. But as with most DOHC its all very easily delivered. It'll never be a sprinter, but it's no slouch either.... as for the 140km mmm I'm still thinking that 130 is in the realms of possible (not on the stock rubber however) I have really not had to pull too hard on the throttle to get smoothly to 100.

The handling is as I think we've all found very stable, and I think can only improve with some good rubber fitted. At 100 I would say that the aerodynamics remind me this is a big beast with quite a heavy (blunt) front end. I have been told that in Europe & UK where they have an urban and sport (some styling differences) that the fairing is a longer version than the stock one here. The Sport version in the UK has a similar screen to ours, but it has 13" on front and rear unlike the Urban which is 14" on the front.

The S3 Singapore seems to be a mainly "urban" model, but with a sport screen? I wonder if this will mean an optional longer screen in the future. It would make a big difference for me, as I think the current screen places the wind pretty much on the top of my helmet. I'll ask next time I'm at CKA.

One thing I have done, which on talking to people at CKA is not common is put the 98 ron in the tank. My reason for this is that this is a Japanese inspired engine and as with most fuel injected vehicles the ECU will be "adaptive" i.e. it will run leaner on lower grades and richer on higher. Japanese ron levels are as standard higher than most countries.

Modern ECU's are in the most pretty smart, however I have to say I cannot substantiate this with the daelim as I can find very little on the ECU in the bike... can someone shed light? This may be a reason why the bike seems to have an exceptionally smooth feel to its running?

I will continue with this, and will see what the fuel economy is like too as I have found the extra ron can (not always) provide better km/l depends on how you ride as well :) I think 1000+ would be a reasonable distance to get a good read on the km/l.

One question for those S3 owners.... how do you find the balance of the bike as you creep to a stop/slowly take off? I find it better with a bit more weight (full tank of fuel) I'm around 68kg so may be due to my skinny body :)

Exactly, but I rather hear more constructive comments from riders of other makes instead of posting a one liner. Not only we would use these

(comments) as reference for any future purchases, we could relate to Daelim via CKA. For example, wouldnt it be prefect if S3 comes in 200 cc? Food for thought

Congrats!

You don't know how to ride? I did not ride for 3 years before this S3, no problem at all. Just turn the throttle and go lor.. haha. Eh Fire, arent you riding Roadwin R now? You got to be kidding...

hahaha no lar the sitting posture and where i put my legs...... are the reason .... hahahaha too used to riding sports bike..... then comes the cornering diff as well not forgetting that this is a bike with no clutch... so have to remember not to pull the brakes in like how we would pull the clutch in... hahahahaha then we will have super man liao....:cheeky:

gd say kchiong. well did ask b4 with regards to 200cc .. what i heard that the bikes were design for euro market or something like dat where they will not have class 2b,2a,2...... i personally agree to have 200cc then to have the 250cc.... but wat to do, we have to do 2a then 2 in singapore. anyway i was wondering if raden could advise as why s3 is not worth buying. so the rest of people will know why to buy it or not to buy it... so bro raden, you care to share ur advice with us? thanks

Collected my bike more than a week ago. I think the FC will improve after run in. My first full tank lasted 320km, then refilled to full tank. I'm quite surprise after 100km of travel, there isn't a drop in bar on the fuel indicator

just keeping my finger crossed. Either the FC has improved or the fuel indicator is not working. Does that happen to your bike?

Nah.....its like that due to the shape of the fuel tank. The bar will drop after 150 km or so. Yup the fuel consumption will be better after the first oil change. Then again I'm the kind who revs the bike during the run in period. Did that to my RW and the engine was still strong 4 years plus of abuse ;P

50 - 50 riding. i think its the norm...my old 2004 roadwin was giving me around 34km/litre ;) and thats not even an FI model. Daelim's build quality is actually on par with the Jap brands.

Adair, sounds like you are an expatriate from UK? Welcome! I went for my first servicing yesterday. It was raining the entire day so I waited for only 25-30mins. The service at CKA as you've mentioned earlier, took professional care and really apply extra services (check tyre pressure, check all electronic systems, clean air filter, blow away and wipe off the brake dusts, etc) Roy also told me of belting service check after 3000km. I felt assured really. Oh yes, I did that OWS flush stuff and engine oil protector, can't really tell whether it contributes to the smoother throttle engine flow I have now cos we are still running in performance ought to improve after 1/2nd oil change.

Im very sure 130 is plausible. Imagine sending S3 to Mythbusters Discovery channel haha.

have been told that in Europe & UK where they have an urban and sport (some styling differences) that the fairing is a longer version than the stock one here. The Sport version in the UK has a similar screen to ours, but it has 13" on front and rear unlike the Urban which is 14" on the front.

I met the boss Ronnie, and spoke to him briefly. Nice gentleman. He told me about the back rest and bigger windshield when I asked him about accessories of S3. He is also not afraid to share with me a couple issues on S3 (not all are facing though) and convinced me not to worry as the technical support between Daelim and him goes a long way history back, 15 years. I felt assured again.

Modern ECU's are in the most pretty smart, however I have to say I cannot substantiate this with the daelim as I can find very little on the ECU in the bike... can someone shed light? This may be a reason why the bike seems to have an exceptionally smooth feel to its running?

hmm.. not too sure about this. But, I do know there is a difference between Europe and US ECU, as they are running on different ron. Since we are using the same ron as Europe then I guess ron98 isnt an issue.

One question for those S3 owners.... how do you find the balance of the bike as you creep to a stop/slowly take off? I find it better with a bit more weight (full tank of fuel) I'm around 68kg so may be due to my skinny body

Do you depress the left or right side brake pedal when slowing down? I was told S3 utilize Combined brake system CBS such that the front and rear brakes activate when the left pedal is depressed. Right side is for the front brakes. Im around 76kg.. I usually do left hand brake, and it has been smooth so far (coming to slow halt then throttle again, depends on how much you throttle).

Well said! End of the day, it's money well spent on an advanced tech bike, and taking in account the value added services from CKA, imo. You are also right on parts support, CKA being Agent of 15years, will never allow hiccups to happen, or the more so when i had the chance to speak face to face with the boss.

Sym7.. If I were you, since its a dilemma and not in a hurry, I will do a test ride on both bikes to assess the feel, power, and comfort, afterwhich, consider the supporting issues like value added services and looks, etc. By the way, is evo200 Sohc 172cc like the predecessor?
