Got a noob qn.

If a bikeshop buys over the bike/COE first, and sells it to you brand new. You end up being the registered second owner of the bike in the log card.

Will this affect the value of the bike later on if you want to sell it? Or is it no difference?

Bike shop usually register a small bike when their spare COE on hand are going to be expired soon, cos Cat D COE is only valid for 6 months once bidded. They usually bid for extra COEs when they think it's cheaper at that time. Then sell the bike to customer. Not much difference if u are talking about the bike as it's brand new. But as for the log card, I won't feel shiok to be the 2nd owner when I'm buying a brand new bike unless the discount are sweet enough to cover these feeling.

Its a common practice.....value of u're bike should not be affected, u can prove it by the bike registration date against u're transfer date on the log card if questioned.

Thank you very for your advice. Just put in down payment for new bike, then got call from bike shop asking if I want to wait for the new bidding of COE. Say that if the price of COE go up, then I have to top up extra. If the price of COE go down, then the savings they keep. But if I want bike urgently, I can just take COE from their shop, which is pegged at the current rate.

Took me a few moments to understand what's going on, which is that they think that there's opportunity to make a few more bucks from the COE difference, if it goes down next month. But I don't see why I should lose out if they want to play COE, since I won't benefit from any savings. Plus must wait about 2 weeks. And also bear the additional cost if COE goes up. The other alternative is to just transfer from the shop's COE. o_O

Do take note of the registration date cos your bike's COE will start from the day they registered the bike.
