take over bike from friend but no license yet

Hi. I'm want to take over my friends bike which has a coe that expires in a few days. he's road tax and insurance is also due to expiry soon. is there any way i can take over the bike from him although i do not have a license yet . i do not mind paying for the coe as soon as it expires. but i do not want to have to pay for his insurance and road tax. thanks in adv.

Get him to lay off the bike first. That is the most economical and safest way. After you get the license, then he can submit the application to put the bike on the road again. You will start with new COE, road tax and insurance under your name. Ownership under your name. Clean and sweet.

Laid up bike, do at LTA when you do the transfer of ownership.

 

You can transfer now, get new COE + laid up all together.

If your friend layup the bike, later you also have to layup, because no longer laid up under the original owner's name. So will pay double layup fee.

 

Plus if transfer earlier, your friend can get back a little bit of the insurance and rooad tax.
